I sat in a decaying tree behind some woman's house while said woman was chasing me with her daughter, the both of them trying to eat me. It was honestly quite sad seeing as the daughter looked to only be about 10 years old, her purple unicorn pyjamas ripped at the bottom. I was lucky enough to have found a tree alive enough to support my weight. Most of the trees nowadays were either chewed on so much by the undead that they had gaping holes in them and ended up falling over if too much weight was put on them, or the trees were too leafy and sticky with syrup to climb. But it seems that my luck has finally run out because the mother and her child have found me and I ran out of arrows long ago. So now I was stuck in a tree with decaying corpses trying to climb the tree to eat me. What fun. I never thought I would be in this situation since I am normally very careful but we were running out of food fast and someone had to go out and get it. I was preparing to jump down and take my chances at running away from the zombies, but before I got the chance to one of my arrows came flying in from behind the house and hit the mother in the head. Now I was 100% sure that my arrows were not magical so someone must have thrown it but I could see no one anywhere. Now that the mother is actually dead I could take out the child fairly easily on my own if I could get down safely, but since the daughter is a zombie, she has no feelings towards her mother's body that is now laying on the ground, it was safe to say she was not going to give up on me. I could maybe try and climb around the tree, but I might be too slow and she could easily follow me to the other side. I was so caught up in my thoughts that I completely missed the woman who managed to sneak up on the zombie. Unfortunately, the zombie had smelt her and quickly turned around and attacked her. The zombie girl must have just turned because normally it takes a few seconds for zombies to realize that there is a person around. She must have still had some of her more human-y senses.
"Get out of the tree I can handle her!" The woman shouted. I did as the mystery woman said and hopped out of the tree. I ended up on the opposite side of the tree from where the woman stood. I could hear grunts and snarls but I could not tell if the zombie was making them or if the woman was. When I finally worked up the courage to go back around the tree I heard a thump and heavy breathing. The breathing didn't sound like the zombie so I took a few quiet steps forward hoping I wasn't wrong.
"Are you alright?" Mystery woman asked.
"Yes, I'm alright. Are you okay though?" I responded, finally rounding the corner of the tree. I blinked at the woman standing in front of me, she was not what I was expecting. She had an outgrown buzzcut, a white cropped sweater with flowers on it, a white cropped top and a skirt. It was quite impractical for the apocalypse. She looked like she had just come back from a date.
“I know the outfit is impractical but I didn't have the time to change before the, y’know,” she said, waving her hand at the now still daughter, “zombies showed up.” She must've caught me staring. Oops.
“So, what were you doing in that tree anyway?” She asked, tilting her head to the side a little. I was tempted to tell her what I was doing, but then I thought about it for a second. Most people nowadays want your loot or want to kidnap you and your friends. How they do that is they get you to tell you about yourself and where you’re camping out.
“Oh right! I don't think you are going to answer that, are you.” She said. “Sorry, my bad. Can I get you to tell me your name then? My name is Selena but you can call me Sel or Lena.” Selena announced, offering her hand to me. I looked at her for a second before deciding to take her hand. She had a firm grip, but so did I. We shook hands for a while eyeing each other, well it was mostly me she just had a warm smile on her face as she stared into my eyes. It was kind of creepy to be honest.
"So, am I allowed to ask what you were doing in the tree?" Selena asked again. I looked her up and down again. She didn't seem like the type to hurt people, but then again you could run into a toddler who was willing to kill you. Finally i decided to tell her. I hope i dont regret this.
