"So many things we went through together, I had so much to give you... but, in the end you behaved like that with me, alone, just because you had a new lover," Roger reproached the man in his mind.
He closed his eyes , frowning, a couple of tears ran down his smooth cheeks.
"It's been a while since I started working here," Roger thought.
"I can't complain I live well: three meals a day, a good salary, vacations, private medical services, a spacious room with a bathroom just for me, the guys are efficient and kind, I have no complaints about them either; They are attentive and do correctly what they are ordered to do" he said to himself to console himself.
It has been two years since Roger ran away from his hometown. He hated that he had done it but he had no choice. His heart had broken into a thousand pieces and his body paid the consequences of loving the wrong person, in that instant he only thought of running away without giving any explanation.
At night she took some of the few things she had; her body ached but that mattered little, a plane ticket and a pair of sleeves to read during the trip, she closed her eyes and left everything behind.
He still remembered the feeling in his body, that cold that ran from his feet to his head, he still remembered the blows and the forced penetration.
Negotiate. He tried to erase those images from his mind; as he watched the maids clean the curtains.
A woman's voice began to be heard in the distance.
"Señor Zaldivar?"
"Señor Zaldivar?"
"LORD ZALDIVAAR? ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?" Alanna shouted close to the young man's ear managing to bring him out of his trance.
"What's wrong," the brunet asked as he wiped a fleeting tear from his face.
"I'm so sorry for scaring you, are you all right?", replies Alanna with a serious look.
The young woman looked at him somewhat curiously but let it pass. She was not to meddle in other people's business.
"Sir...they're done outside...I've told the gardeners not to leave any of the equipment behind and to stand down," said Alanna.
"Perfect," Roger replied, trying to pretend everything was fine.
He had forgotten that he was the new housekeeper of that big house and he was not to waste his time, although it was an honor to be promoted it was almost exhausting for him to manage all the tasks, apart from the new ones he had been given, I walk around the house to check that the cleaning has been done correctly, completely forgetting what was going through his mind.
"Is the silverware on," Roger asks.
As he takes a glove to slide his slender fingers across some of the mansion's furniture.
"The bedrooms, are they ready," he continued to ask.
"And the dinner, is it ready? I don't want any mistakes, today is the party and I need everything to be on time," spoke Roger.
The girl next to him answered with a nod of her head. "No sir, everything is on time, I have already checked it".
"Chief Zaldivar, I forgot, Mr. Smith sent an email mentioning that the free positions should be filled by Friday." Roger could only sigh.
"Ms. Robinson, I'll give you the opportunity to do this."
"Chief, Mr. Smith mentioned that he will leave this assignment exclusively in your hands, no one else but you should do it," Alanna said, making Roger sigh again somewhat irritated.
"Ok, send me the applicant files, tomorrow I will give you the names of the people we interviewed," he replies.
Handing over the glove he used a moment ago and leaves to the kitchen, since he started working there, the nightmares stopped appearing and the fear of being touched has almost been extinguished or so he thought.
The routine continued until nightfall, the young housekeeper was about to sleep when Alanna knocked on his door, in his hands he had printed all the resumes of the applicants, he sighed a little tired taking the folder in his hands; he knew perfectly well that tonight he would sleep very little or simply nothing, he turned on a small table lamp, one of the few things he had taken with him, he took a last sigh before opening the folder and began to read, without realizing it he fell asleep on his desk.
A few rays of sunlight slipped through the curtains trying to bother him with their light, but Roger was already standing up, as was his habit; he ran a few kilometers and then took a refreshing bath, that morning he decided that a sandwich was the best option and thus begin with his usual work, he looked at his calendar, it was Monday and that meant it would be a busy day.
The first thing on the agenda was breakfast for the little children of the family, although the chefs are there, the little ones who lived there loved the fluffy hot cakes that Roger prepared; Next was to cut the roses in the garden and supervise the work of the gardeners, then ask the menu of the day from breakfast to dinner, he thought "being the new manager left no time to think about anything or anyone," and he was happy about that.
Roger looked at his watch, it was noon and the people who would go for interview started to arrive.
Alanna announced the first one who was coming for the Chef position, when the interview was over she politely said goodbye to the hungry one and continued without stopping until she reached the last one.
From the folder she took out several sheets of paper that belonged to a single person, she kept an eye on him before asking her companion to let him in, he had no photo but there was a long line of recommendations from previous jobs and even one from the army, his resume was surprising, he was a doctor and served for three years in the army, he also had a decoration for saving a person inside a collapsed building, among other things.
"Alanna can you let it go, please."
"It's okay."
The man coming through the door was tall much taller than Roger, his gaze was like that of an assassin, it made him nervous, also in his eyes he had an air of that man who hurt him.
Images of the past ran through his mind.
He blinked several times to keep the memories from clouding his mind.
"Please...please have a seat" roger smiled. He wanted the person in front of him to feel comfortable.
The man thanked him for the invitation and took a seat, although Roger at first feigned assurance the firm and penetrating gaze of the person sitting across from him caused him to again feel fear.
Without further ado Roger got up and left the place trembling, asking Alanna to do the interview, he walked as fast as he could to the bathroom, dropping himself next to the door; out of nowhere tears began to run down his face, he didn't understand what was happening or why the guy had reminded him of Paul, that name, Paul thought he had forgotten it. he closed his eyes more letting out more tears and covered with his hands his mouth not wanting anyone to hear him.
