"You look like hell"
I looked up, eyes blurry. A man stood there, dressed all in white. His platinum blond hair fell past his shoulders, and his eyes shifted between red, purple and green. "Who... Who are you?" I mumbled, a lethargic sadness having enveloped me.
"Me? Well... Lets just say we have a lot in common. I too know what its like to be betrayed by those I once called brothers." He sat beside me, but it seemed like he wasn't there at all. The boards didn't creak under him as he sat on the old bench. There was no scent of perfume, food or even basic human aroma from him. Not to mention, from certain angles, it seemed as though I could look right through him.
"What do you want from me? I have nothing left..."
His eyes flashed a little angrily at that. "Nothing? What about your hopes and dreams? You will always have those. And what's more, there is no better revenge than being better than those who sought to destroy you. And I can get you that."
"Alright... Who are you that you can offer me that?"
He smiled brightly. "Well, I've had a few names. Some called me Loki, and others call me Lucifer. You can call me Lou."
I smiled at the cruel irony of it all. "And what, you're here to give me a deal with the devil?"
"In a sense, yes."
"I suppose you'll be wanting my soul in return, then."
"No, nothing like that. I just want you to take the power I give you, and be better than He ever could be."
"He... My brother?"
He nodded. "I'll give you a bit of knowledge that may make it make more sense. The reason he so easily turned the world against you is because he bears the gift of someone else, just as I am giving to you. His gift is Congregation, the power to cause everyone he knows to believe in him as if it were the word of... Well, you know." He pointed up, signifying some sort of higher power.
"And what gift would you give me?"
I called over my shoulder, "What ever it is you're selling, I'm not buying! Gods... you'd think I were an idiot if I fell for something like that..."
I stopped in my tracks, turning to face the ethereal being. "And how, pray tell, do you plan to prove it?"
The coin was completely undamaged.
This was it. This was my chance to finally take back my life. I eagerly took up his hand and shook it. "Lou, you just found yourself a warlock."
