METALLOID

From the Crust

Jul 04, 2025

We are all bred and born from blood, but some beyond us believe that the "unlucky" populus was bred from rock and element. These handful of people do not have control of what they are made of or made from, and must live and bare the consequences of being born that way.

His eyes open to see two blurry figures, pacing back and forth at a speed not really consistent enough to really understand. The bitterness and greyful look in the sky feels like it's taking pity on him, giving him a moment to really breathe into this new sense of self.

But it's like everything behind us is clouded away, out of reach and to never be in our hands again. This new self breathes new air, new energy, and a new body, maybe? No, this is my body, or is this his body? I don't know anymore, but I'm in it.

"GET UP! You don't have TIME to sit there!"

I can't speak, he can't speak, or is it we can't? I'm not entirely sure, but I kept pondering why I feel there's another me already in me. Is he speaking to me? or the other me, or to that girl with such long hair.

"Pick him up from the other side and lift—He's not going to move on his own at all!"

I'm moving, or slowly I am, but still moving. Or is he moving? I keep saying "he" but I feel like the only person in this body, as if the other one who once breathed the same air as me is fading away. This body feels heavy, like it's plagued with promise and things no ordinary body has.

"Is he waking up yet? please tell me he is, he's so damn HEAVY.—"

I'm curious myself, am I gunna wake up? But then these eyes slowly start to close, everything in line of sight going blank, then soon to black.

I open these eyes again to see not the sky, but a roof. This feeling—a soft cozy pile of blankets below me and a pillow to push my head up, it's like I can just laze around and just take glances of everything without having to move this head! Wait, if I'm in a room, then—.

"Don't get your hopes too high, this is my room. Hikari has to go change so she asked if we could use mine." Silicon says, looking off the other way.

"I didn't have any hopes up, you're just dreaming." Boron replies

"So, Boron... is it?" "Hikari asked me to keep look on you, even though I don't really wanna. But, it'd be rude if I told her that, so now I'm stuck her looking after a vegetable."

Boron sits up, moving upwards and standing. "Listen, if you have a problem, you can file it right here and we can talk about it through fists."

"Tch. Some lame ass threats you have." Silicon remarks, walking towards the door.

Hikari opens the door carefully and enters, lightening up the atmosphere.
"Are you guys getting along yet?" Hikari asks

"Just fine." Both Boron and Silicon reply, looking away.

"Then let's go! They've been waiting on us to register Boron in for a while by now, so let's hurry so we're not too late!" Hikari says

"Alright, I'm ready." Silicon replies

"Register to what now?" Boron asks, confused.

"To the organization! If you want to keep living under these roofs, you have to register yourself as a division member at the offices." Hikari replies

"And if you don't want to end up any more forgetful than you are now, it's best or even luck you can stay in our division and train with us under Chrom, he's considerably more nicer than most of the leaders... unless you're someone like yourself that's weaker than most." Silicon remarks

"Fine, but I'm not weak, just so you know!" Boron says angrily.

"We'll see about it when I wipe your face on the ground!" Silicon remark daringly.

"No time for any of that—let's hurry!" Hikari says to both, pulling both out in a very hasty rush.

The scenery shines, with the outside almost paling in comparison to it. It's decked out with walls built and fortified completely with paint, and even areas to sit around or lounge around in for those who need rest outside their corridors. It's a mirror of the rubble and debris-reduced world the inner crust became.

"This place is decked out with people! I'd even say it feels crowded here... is that bad?"

"Nope! It's how the place usually is, with workers from each faction of the organization coming in and heading out from missions to report or rest.

"If anything, he might be right for once, it does feel a little crowded today. must be busier than usual."

"Ghh...!  Get your head out of your ass. I'm always and if not—USUALLY right."

"You haven't had anything good to say up to that statement earlier, and now you messed up your chance to be any right by saying that."

"Both of you need to get along soon if you two want to work together!"

"Okay." says Silicon. "Fine, if you say so." says Boron.

A door finally comes into sight, with it swinging opening as if it was waiting just for us. Just as we walk in, another girl comes by and stands in right next to us in snap yet somewhat sleazy movement. She takes several glances at each of us, mostly at Silicon. All of us come to form a four group, with us coming to a snap-and-stick rest pose as a big man comes stomping on out.

"A new find. Have you had him registered yet?" The big guy asks.

"No sir. But, we were getting to it—"

An audibly loud sigh comes from within him, feeling like a dragon breathing right infront of us.

"It's fine, just assign him to any slot to your pick, any of you can do it just get it done now." He says, handing a board to Hikari as she hastily writes Boron's name down into a roster of only five people filling six slots.

"Was that it?" Boron asks.

"Yep, now there's only the ropes, I guess." Hikari replies

"THE ROPES? How long has he been here to have ANY excuse to not have been shown anything?" The disheveled girl asks

"Well, I'd say his only defense is we found him buried near some rubble in a fortified ditch. I'm not sure what kind of better excuse you want than that one."

"We took him in just a bit ago! We know we should leave survivors out, especially ones that seem a little more meager than most...—But I know him from somewhere!"

"From where?" The girl asks

"Well... Y'know..!"

"Hika, just leave it be, he has time tomorrow, the day's already looking to be just about done. Himawari, leave it be and you can talk to him tomorrow."

"Fine. But it's not on my ass next time, it'll be on yours, got it?" Himawari says

"Okay, I promise you I'll take the fall next time."

"Good, see me at my corridor later."

"Nnh— Okay." Silicon replies, looking back in a mildly annoyed manner, but seeming a bit lighter now.

"Your corridor is just about all the way down the hall. I guess we'll see you tomorrow Boron!"

"Kay', See ya!" Boron replies, running down the hall.

Then a sudden fall to the ground. Did I hit someone? Or even more concerning, that fall kind of hurt. I look up and see him, I don't know his name but he looks the name they said he had, or he might even be someone else, it probably doesn't matter all too much.

"My bad, I wasn't looking ahead of me—"

"Watch it, fuckin' idiot." The figure walks off, his lengthy jet-black hair waving, yet not moving too much as to seem a distraction for eyes like mine.

"Jeez, everyone here has something up their own." Boron remarks, walking back into his room.

That checks out for the day, slumped on the bed, clean slate for a room, and maybe one? or I guess two friends would make more sense, or is it three? I'm not sure, that's a lot of numbers—or wait, final thought: who the hell was the guy I bumped into? He acts like he owns the place, he's already getting on my nerves. Well, I guess I'm better off sleeping now instead of counting friends and thinking about that guy. I shrug everything off, as my sight begins to fade out as everything drifts apart and together at the same time, like ocean ripples. Even in this sea of tranquility, it feels like somethings burning through, and yelling into a shell of something that was left behind but far ahead. What are they yelling? I can't quite catch it, but I feel like I'm best off dreaming than worrying about it. Tomorrow's a new day for a reason, and it's all so today's issues can get shrugged off now, and worried about later.

Goodnight me.

Earth had never always been at peace. Never neat, never quiet, not even equal, and it didn’t make it any better when metals and metalloids popped from the ground. Rising up from the crust of the world, these people over ages and time would come to be oppressed, judged and mistreated horribly over a long period of time.
Though one day, humans would push the limit of just oppression and begin to use these people for their bodies and experiments, turning them into monsters and causing mutations to those who wouldn’t wish to live that way.Even harvestations of these bodies would become a common practice to those who would live in the dark and make money off these beings. This caused a new age of humanity to rise and leave these people in the dark over years of rebellion and outcry: a new age living among new crust, and a dark age living below the inner crust of the world.
Boron, a PRO-Metalloid: A perfectly balanced human-like metalloid used for harvest and experiments, would rise to escape his imprisonment along with two close familiars to lead to a life of freedom. But in the end, only Boron would be the only one to emerge from the rubble of the dark affairs of humanity.
