The moon hung heavy in the night sky, casting a pale glow over the quiet fishing village of Yehliu. The waves whispered against the jagged rocks, their rhythm steady, unchanging—until the wind carried the scent of something forbidden.
Liang Yuze awoke to a burning heat beneath his skin.
He gasped, clutching the thin sheets tangled around his legs. His breath came in short, sharp bursts, his body thrumming with an unfamiliar sensation. It wasn’t sickness. It wasn’t exhaustion. It was need.
A wave of nausea crashed into him, chased by something worse—an ache, deep and primal. He gritted his teeth. This couldn’t be happening. He was a Beta. He had lived twenty-two years as a Beta.
And yet—
A scent thickened the air, sweet yet sharp, curling around him like invisible threads. He could taste it on his tongue, feel it sinking into his bones. He didn’t recognize it as his own until the night silence was broken by a howl—low, guttural, Alpha.
The hair on the back of his neck stood. Footsteps pounded against the pavement outside his window. More than one. Many.
Panic seized him. His hands trembled as he reached for his phone, fingers fumbling. He barely managed to unlock it before a sudden knock—no, pound—against his door sent his heart into his throat.
“Liang Yuze.” The voice was deep, controlled. Yet beneath it was something sharp, hungry. “You need to come with us.”
His blood turned to ice.
Because that voice didn’t belong to any villager. It belonged to the Lunar Alphas—enforcers of an ancient tradition, the ones who took Omegas before they could question their fate.
And now, they had come for him.
