Our protagonist lay down on the floor of his small apartment and looked at the empty ceiling. He sighed. Arthur used to be a doctor, a surgeon to be a bit more specific. He was actually quite skilled at his job and always tried to make his girlfriend Ginny (Guinevere) happy, when he had free time. In general, he was a very kind man. However, kindness doesn’t always lead to kindness in return as he sadly had to find out. He discovered that Lance, a rich CEO with an awful personality, had an affair with his girlfriend. Lance had Arthur beaten up in front of Ginny, who didn’t really care about Arthur anymore as she believed she found someone much richer and much more handsome. She did not think that love was worth much compared to immense wealth. Alone, Arthur tried to get over the relationship by working and living as he used to, but Lance pulled all his strings to make sure that Arthur suffered. Our poor doctor lost his job and was blacklisted from every hospital in this corrupt country.
Thus, he lived from his savings and became a mess. He spent his days watching Korean dramas and playing video games. Soon, his funds were about to run out.
That’s it, huh? That d*** landowner is really gonna throw me out next month. How can he be more heartless than a literal raccoon? Arthur sighed, when he thought about how difficult it was to make a living in real life. In his game, he could just sell some fish to get some money and buy a whole house with ease. He was wondering what he should do once his bank account reaches zero. Should he just live on the streets or become a monk or start a revolution against this corrupt capitalist regime? He didn’t want to go to prison nor did he want to die, so being a monk seemed the most reasonable option to him. At least, Lance can’t possibly control the church, too.
If only my cousin Kay came back from the middle east, he could help me. He went to find business opportunities and never came back. Last time I heard from him, he went on a long voyage with a sailor called Sinbad. But he’s probably fine. Well… let’s hope he’s fine.
As Arthur was being miserable again, the doorbell rang.
“I HAVE TIL THE END OF THE MONTH. STOP GETTING ON MY NERVES, OLD MAN!!”
Arthur opened the door and an incredibly handsome man stood before him. He had short black hair, a muscular build and bright blue eyes. But… he was dressed as if he was medieval vampire from that old popular movie with those two famous male Hollywood stars.
“Oh, I thought it was someone else. Sorry! Um… That’s awkward…”
The strange man wasn’t really bothered.
“It’s fine. I am burning with the fires of revenge in my passionate heart, as well. My friend, we are the same.”
… Is he… a creep? Better not get involved with crazy people.
“I think you got the wrong guy. Bye!”
Arthur tried to close the door, but the good-looking stranger slipped into Arthur’s apartment.
“You are Arthur, the surgeon, right?”
“And who are you?”
“I am Mel. Lance’s arch-nemesis and his older brother.”
“Nemesis?”
Is he a fifteenth century villain? Who talks like that?
“He stole my CEO position and got me to be the outcast of the family. Of course, my family would never cut me off, as that would be too shameful for that conservative lot, but I am more or less treated like garbage.”
“Ah…okay. And what does that have to do with me?”
“You were also wronged by my despicable brother. Let’s team up and get revenge!”
Arthur looked at Mel in silence. Then, he went back to the sofa to continue gaming.
“What are you doing?”, asked Mel confused.
“Paying off my debts to that raccoon.”
“Don’t you have debts in real life, too, that you should take care of? I looked into your affairs and noticed quite a bit of money you had supposedly borrowed, though it did seem kind of sketchy to me.”
“I sure do, but it’s not like anyone will hire me. Not even that gross burger joint wanted to take me.”
“What if I pay off your debts?”
Arthur put the console away. His green eyes shined with color again for the first time in a while.
“What do you want in return?”
“Help me tear down my wretched brother and make my coldhearted family regret treating me like a subhuman piece of trash.”
“Too much work. Too much stress.”
“Come on, my friend!”
“Sigh. Fine, I’ll help you get revenge on Lance and the rest of your family.”
“You won’t regret this decision! I’ll get your debts settled right away.”
“Do you have a plan?”
“In detail? No. But I know the first step!”
“And that is?”
“Marry me!”
“The f***?”
“Look, my family is very conservative. If I marry a man, they will lose it, but they can’t get rid of me, either. It’s perfect!”
“But I’m not interested in men.”
“Perfect! I am not interested in matters of the heart between lovers. What could match the thrill of fighting against your destiny and reaching ever greater heights, my friend? I have no time for a spouse.”
What destiny are you fighting against? And you don’t even seem like a busy person.
“Can I divorce you once the plan is done?”
“Sure.”
“So, how does that work? Do we need a marriage contract?”
“Obviously. Do you really think I’ll hand over half my wealth to you during the divorce?”
D*** it! He read my mind!
“Does that mean I get nothing?”
“Well… I can give you a million or two at the divorce. A small bit of pocket money, I guess. There needs to be some sum, after all.”
“Two million is fine by me!”
Being shameless is really paying off!
“We need to really sell our relationship to them, though. So, do your best!”
“I’ll learn everything I need about you and I’ll be faithful and loyal to you.”
“You don’t really need to. This is just a fake marriage, anyway.”
“No, I am not the type of person to betray my partner. Even if it’s all just fake.”
“You do you.”
Arthur went back to the couch to continue with his game.
“Are you really playing that game again? A man should be outside in the real world fighting against evil, not in his cozy home farming digitally.”
Arthur got serious and put the console down. “I am addicted.”
“Addicted to games?”
“Yes!”
“You are just a lazy f***. Get out of the house with me. We have to make you presentable and get the marriage registration done.”
“Can’t you do that on your own?”
“Remember the two million.”
“Suddenly, I feel energized. Let’s go!”
Thus, the marriage revenge of these to incompetent men started.
