The sun is rising.
Birds are chirping and its annoying to say the least.
I didn't get much sleep with all the excitement of going to the Royal Magic Academy and all; infact I doubt anyone slept, the whole village is probably more into it than I am. However I'll keep these thoughts to myself before I get an ear full about responsibility from the old chief.
I get up, wash my face and head out into the fields. Getting a few last shots at my favourite target rocks before I leave feels not only just but it's also calming. I slow down my breathing, focus in on the individual molecules of mana in my surroundings and collect them near the palm of my hand as it is pointed at the middle target. I use a small incantation to aid the spell, " Lord of flames I beseech thee, to burn my opposition I command thee". Swiftly after, the fireball is shot at the target and explodes on impact.
My magic output, infact my abilities overall are the best around; but that means shit to me if I don't have anyone strong enough to oppose me in this village, my strength has no proper comparison. That's part of the reason the elder decided to send me off to the capital, I might find some proper competition. As I start my walk back I hear the constant shouting of young kids and adults alike, as if they were all 10 years old, " It's too early for this" I mumble. After a long breakfast in the village hall, I set my bag on a carriage and set out for the capital.
The journey is a long one, with the current pace I'm at it would take two days at most to get to the capital, however that wont be a problem as it gives me enough time to hunt down beasts in the surroundings… In fact it meant I could let loose on my magic and see just how powerful it really is on its own, something I almost never get to do. " As soon as night falls, I'll set out to hunt. Better not run " I tell the two horses dragging my carriage as if they could respond. After about five hours of travel I reach a clearing that seemed to have been used as a camping spot countless number of times and it will once again serve for the same purpose; I set up camp and wear my gear. I wear a black shirt along with silver shoulder guards, and as for my legs I have grey pants and light metal boots. I leave the campsite and set out to hunt… It's going to be one bloody night for the magic beasts.
"You beasts have quite the backbone! " I exclaim as I launch yet another fireball at 3 black dire wolves." You bastards are getting quite annoying now, lets end this shall we ", I create some distance between me and the wolves and start an incantation with my palms on the ground, " Spirit of Fire, purifying power, with the strength of the rising sun, set their bodies ablaze". In that instance a magic circle forms underneath the three wolves and a pillar of fire erupts from underneath, leaving nothing but black and burnt carcasses. I sit down panting, " Damnit all, I'm still too weak to bare the backlash from that spell. However, now I know three dire wolves wont stand a chance against me and that is some bloody good news " I say with a grin. As I stare at the horizon I stand up and make my way back to my carriage, I still have a day's worth of travel and I should make it to the capital with time before the entrance ceremony.
In this last day of travel I've had time to analyse myself from the fight I had with the wolves. As amazing as it was to win in a 3v1 I barely could do anything afterwards, if I was ambushed I would have died, and that's a sign of weakness I must resolve. On the other hand my magic ability if anything is much better compared to my younger years, so improvement is present and growth is all within my grasp. The academy had better watch out because their oh so beloved Royals and Nobles were about to meet a devil in the flesh. Despite the long hours of travel I made it to the capital, Ashburn, before I knew it and it was nothing short of glorious. From its large entrance gates to the lively streets it was truly no small hole in the King's pockets. I left my carriage at a small barn looking building and sold my horses to the local stables. I made my way to an Inn, paid for my stay and made my way to my room and collapsed on the bed. The world was a much bigger place to travel and for me this was only the first step.
As it stands, the Kingdom of Xyrus is located North of this continent, named Akall after a great mage, with mountain ranges to its East and West; legend saying the Eastern mountains were erected by magic to create a border with the Eastern non-human territory. To the West, is a large portion of the continent that is dominated by magic beasts. The area is named the Wild Lands and rightfully so. To the South of the kingdom it becomes quite the mess, this is due to small factions existing and fighting amongst themselves to grow their strength to the goal of one day creating a Second Kingdom that can oppose Xyrus. To wrap this continent all up we have a large City in the centre, named Yggdrasil as it is the centre most location on the continent and there is where most of the well trained mages go to either work with one of six magic towers or to pursue a somewhat normal , high paying profession. But to be honest, mages go there in search of guidance or mentorship from the tower masters or better known as Archmages; available information about them is close to none and all the normal people would say is that they know one thing for sure… They are all powerful enough to become continental threats and as such are held to a high standard and are never let down.
The entrance ceremony would be held on the next day, however it would not start until later in the day. Effectively meaning there was half a day to find out as much as I could about this city … or sleep. " Well… cheers to new beginnings then ", I switch off of the lamps and lay down to fall asleep.
