Maedra sighed deeply, quite pleased with her work.
That was the last of the day’s produce, the three score freshly baked loaves of bread she had been stacking for market.
Matek would come and pick them up before noon as usual.
The miller’s son often worked as a delivery boy for the bakery, taking the fresh baked bread to market on his way back from delivering the miller’s fine flour to their bakery.
Her father ran the bakery now, after old Wilem passed. The entire village of Anglathe depended on them for the fresh bread they made.
And Maedra was very proud to be a part of the hard work her parents had put into making the bakery a much loved part of everyone’s lives.
“Maedra.” Her mother called to her from the front yard. “Darla is here.”
“Thank you, Mama.” She smiled at the plump woman, stepping outside. “All my chores are done and I shan’t be long.”
“Very good, dear.” Her mother nodded. “Have fun now.”
“I will.” Maedra grinned as she ran up to her best friend waiting by the wood fence.
The late morning sun felt good on her face, warm and comforting.
That meant the long winter was finally over and it was time again to plant new crops and look forward to a bountiful harvest.
