It's at that time I knew it was all over. The stupid bully would win the science fair and take the damn trophy! I couldn't let it happen, but to be honest, my waterfall splash measurement experiment was junk. The worst idea ever. The worst part was, he was going to brag about for the next few days showing it off, bragging us to treasure him.
That wasn't going to be me of course.
My name is Russell Wyders, and I'm a 7th grade boy in the middle school of Nermal. Ok I get it, the name sounds very disgusting, but com'on! Living here isn't so bad... less populated than your school by most. So it was the flex period, and everyone was in their classroom doing homework... or just playing games on the laptops, which were given for "school purposes" yet everyday someone goes down for the specific reason of the simple blame game, for example yesterday afternoon...
One kid was in the back of the room, the entitlement of the spot you want to be in to do the exact thing. Then my teacher came over because I shouted, "DALE IS PLAYING GAMES!" then everything want as normal. Dale went to the school office while I went back to work, but before I did, my teacher came over to look at me and said, "I'm not allowing you to take my job, nor snitch on other kids, Russell. Stop doing that."
While walking home from school, I was with one of my few friends, his name was Michael. He played cool, not too popular, and didn't have any other friends, so nothing would fix this friendship. Then we knew what we saw ahead...
The boy...
The one...
"Run!" I said.
Michael stayed behind while I ran, but came back to him.
"DUDE WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO HERE!? GET YOURSELF KILLED!?" My lungs screamed as hard as they could, then I saw him.
Like the kid from the nightmare on Mulberry Street...
Jack Ravens...
"I SAID RUN!" Micheal then ran, as fast as we could away... perhaps we'd lose our clothes, backpacks, and everything else from that kid.
Then something strange was up ahead...
It was a neon orb.
The orb glowed like Christmas lights, but it was the middle of April, and nothing would be out at this time of year. Or maybe...
It was one of those "glow in the dark" balls you see with ads on your TV. It had no size changes. It just floated in mid-air with nothing changing about it. We just ran closer to it.
It got bigger.
A nearby snap of a tree branch and I shook Michael on the shoulder. His expression changed from fear to scared. "What the heck is that Russell!?" He asked me quickly, and I shook my head no.
"Well whatever it is, I'm not touching that thing."
As Michael went around the orb, it seemed to move towards him.
"Uh Russell? Are you seeing this?"
I was daydreaming and saw him on the street with the orb in front of him. The orb was on the sidewalk, and it moved.
"We need to get out of here."
As we walked the other direction... nothing showed. I looked back and the orb was in the same spot every time...
That moment, the orb was moving behind us. We ran faster, and it came zooming towards us. "RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!"
If only that helped... because the orb flew in front of me, and I was in a dark void. The orb was bigger now, and it started to float away!
"RUSSELL!" A voice repeated far away, and got quieter as the orb went north, but I didn't know the exact direction. Then, I fell a long way.
Then hit the ground with a loud crash.
I was dead.
My eyes opened, and saw a stone floor smoothed out.
Where was I?
Where is Michael?
Will I see Michael?
The questions boomed in my head like fireworks on the 4th of July, and then I slept right there.
And sometime after, heard a voice.
"Russell, I've been waiting for you."
To be continued...
