A long time ago, a beautiful autumn day in Japan, a monkey with a pink face and a yellow crab was playing together along a river. While they were running the crab found a rice ball and the monkey a persimmon seed.
The crab picked up the rice ball and showed it to the monkey, saying:
"Look what a lovely thing I found!"
The monkey then showed his persimmon seed and said:
“I also discovered something good! Look!"
Now while the monkey still likes persimmon fruit, the seed he had just found was not needed. the persimmon seeds are as hard and inexplicable as stone. He, so greedy in nature, he felt very jealous of the crab with a good dumpling, and offered an exchange. The crab naturally, did not see why he should surrender his reward for for a stone, and would not consent to the motion.
Then the cunning monkey began to persuade the crab, saying:
"How foolish it is to not think of the future! Now you can eat your rice dough and it is certainly much more than my seed but if you sow this seed in the earth it will soon be grow into a large tree in a few years, and carry a abundance of delicate, ripe persimmons year after year. Then we can show it to you with the yellow fruit hanging from it branches! Of course, if you don't believe me, I'll sow it myself; although I'm sure you will regret it later you did not take my advice."
The determined crab couldn't resist the monkey discerning persuasion. Eventually, he created and consented to the monkey proposal, and the exchange was made. The greedy monkey soon swallowed the dumpling and with great reluctantly surrendered to the crab the persimmon seed. He would do he liked to stay with that too, but he was afraid to an angry crab and pinned by his sharp scissors the claws. Then they went their separate ways, with the monkey going home. woods and crabs on their stones along the river. Like as soon as the crab got home, the persimmon seed entered the ground as the monkey had told him.
