'Everyone starts from humble beginnings, so we hope you'll enjoy ours. It started with a simple story that took flight in our minds. Now we know it might not be the best and we hope it's not the worst. So from our hearts and imaginations, we present our simple story written by two simple folk.'
Within a museum in London, past the many rooms adorned with relics, works of art, and pieces of history, behind the grand staircase, down the hall on the right, lies a professor's private office, and if you pay close attention, you just might overhear an interesting discussion taking place there.
"...Andreas Corsair, a notorious pirate. Some might even call him a Pirate King. A most vile and feared man on the seas in the 1600s was also the most sought-after. The big question as to why on earth such a man would be so sought out instead of avoided comes to mind, doesn't it?''. A Professor wearing a fine suit and polished leather shoes, gestures to the man sitting across from him. This man was a rather simple-looking gentleman. Though his unremarkable appearance did little to hide the mysterious air surrounding him. "I would assume it's because he was wanted". "Yes, yes, a perfectly logical answer, but an incorrect one, and since I have piqued your interest in the matter, allow me to further enlighten you!".
The mysterious man seemed bored and uninterested in the Professor's passionate history lesson. He leaned his cheek onto his fist while his other hand rested across his torso as he muttered in a disinterested fashion to himself, ''Not really...' Ahem!'.... as fascinating as this all sounds, I remember being told about a job opportunity, but as soon as I arrived, you started rambling on about some pirate''.The Professor presses his fingers against his brows trying to ease the growing tension between them, "SIGH... young people these days, no patience''. ''Alright, alright, I'll be getting to the job in just a moment, but could you bear with an old man's ramblings a little longer?", "I guess, but please, keep it brief", ''tsk tsk, very well, then I'll keep it brief''. The professor tugged on his jacket, fixing it in place before continuing his ''brief'' story. ''Now, where was I? Ah! Why was he so sought-after? It was not because he was wanted. No, but rather for a treasure of immense value that he had plundered. ''... Just a single glance at it could drive anyone mad with greed''.
The professor confidently reached into his desk drawer and pulled out an aged, discoloured parchment that was encased in a protective sleeve. As he places it on the desk, he reveals a slightly faded drawing and inscriptions on the parchment. "Behold, Andreas Cosair’s most prized possession - Cordelia, the heart of the sea. This ruby is of extraordinary size, weighing approximately 300 carats’’.The professor leans back in astonishment, touching his palm to his forehead, ''Can you believe it, a gem roughly the size of a child's heart! Incredib...''. The professor is interrupted once more by the mysterious man, who implores, "Please, just tell me what you want''.
The sudden shift in the professor's demeanour catches the mysterious man a little off-guard and serves as a reminder as to why he is actually here. The professor locked his palms together as they rested on the desk in front of him and spoke in a stern yet polite tone, ''... That concludes my storytelling and marks the beginning of my offer to you, Mr Greed. I would like you to retrieve this 'Cordelia' for me". Greed arched his brow and looked perplexed. "Professor, I think you have the wrong person. I'm just a regular accountant, not some treasure hunter!". The professor replied, "Oh, but you are! I have conducted extensive research about you, Mr. Greed, and at great expense, which is why I believe you are the best person for this treasure-hunting job. So, there is no use in pretending anymore!".
Moments after the professor's statement, Greed's behaviour and the demeanour he carried himself with had changed. The simple and unimposing accountant was replaced by a man with a razor-sharp gaze and complete self-confidence, '' Professor, are you sure you want to deal with me even after your 'extensive research' into me?", '' Quite certain, indeed. This job requires a man of your calibre to handle the task". With an expression of smug satisfaction, Greed allowed a smirk to spread across his face. "Very well, but why is it exactly that a 'man of my calibre' is needed to retrieve this jewel?".The professor started explaining that he had been researching Andreas Corsair for several years and had finally discovered a clue to his whereabouts. He had recently acquired the pirate king's journal from an auction in Japan, which gave him the most accurate way to determine the location of the jewel. ''You see, around the time I had purchased the journal, I overheard some people saying that the original journal had been copied by the auctioneer and privately sold to another collector''. "That still doesn't answer my question, Professor". The Professor walks over to Greed, cornering him in his seat, leaning in close as he places his hands on either side of the chair, staring him dead in the eyes. ''The man that bought the other copy of the journal was none other than one of the dragon heads of the Japanese yakuza, a man called Kurai Jigoku. A ruthless killer and antiquities fanatic. Willing to go so far as to murder those that get in the way of him obtaining what he desires''.The Professor straightens himself back up and returns to his seat, "...That is why I needed a man of your calibre and skill set, Mr Greed''.
Greed's anticipation after hearing out the professor could not be contained. His excitement for a new adventure was plastered all over his face. A wide grin spreads across his face as he hops out of his seat and gestures to the Professor, ''So Professor, where is this journal?''. ''Whatever happened to the sad lump of depression and boredom before me?'', the Professor thought to himself while hesitantly reaching into the large inner pocket of his fine jacket and pulling out the journal. With his newfound energy, Greed walks over to the professor's side to get a closer look. He peers closely at the journal and not even a minute later he announces: ''I accept the job professor!'', as he briskly walks towards the door. The Professor bewildered by his abruptness, stands up, ''W...WAIT, you're just leaving like that? we didn't finish discus..., you haven't even looked at the contents, so, how...?! Greed raises his finger to his lips, cutting the Professor off for what seems like the final time. ''Don't worry, I've got everything I need'', nonchalantly waving goodbye with the journal in hand.
The professor heaves a deep and tired sigh, expressing his exhaustion. ''How will he ever find anything without...!'', he stares dumbfounded at his empty hand. ''I'm sure I was holding it?'', at the moment of realization, the professor hurriedly rushes towards the window. He spots Greed getting into a taxi and shouts out, ''GREED, YOU THIEVING SCOUNDRAL. YOU BETTER RETURN THAT JOURNAL!''. With a foot already in the taxi, Greed looks up at the Professor and yells back, ''I'LL SEE YOU LATER, PROFESSOR'', then whispers to himself, ''Or not''. He Yells out again, ''I'M ON MY WAY TO JAPAN''. Taken aback, the Professor ponders to himself, ''How did he know where to go? I hadn't even mentioned that the shipwreck was somewhere off the coast of Japan!?''. Meanwhile, on the way to the airport, Greed thinks to himself, ''It's finally time to put all that research to good use".
From a museum in London to the depths of Japan, follow Greed on his adventure to find the lost treasure of a long-forgotten captain. But beware of the dangers that lurk and the surprises you'll encounter, for treasure is not always found in glitter and gold.
