Prologue

I didn’t want the sun...
Just want to have fun.
They said we were young,
I’d say we were dumb.
I never gave a damn shit...
That's why everything split!

They say the slum is like a fine pussy: Once you’re inside of it, you’ll never get out… I’d know it, I am one of the dicks living in it. They even wrote it on the busted board “Welcome to Magdad City” left dangling above the closed up south highway. With some big red dripping letters that no one can miss:

“You born here; you live here; you die here”

No need for ten damn divine laws. Just those three are enough. But as the intellectual level of the locals never rose above a worm’s fart, it has been replaced one day by this simple rhyme:

“Scums never leave the Slum”

My name is Bastian Summers and I am an official scum.

100 % slum. Halfway between the “Lumbricidae” and the “Treponema pallidum”, in Darwin's evolution. Family background? Don’t really have one…

Greetings dear readers and welcome to "The Butterflies Blossom."

In this story, Bastian Summers will tell you the life he had experience in Magdad City, his home town. Through his eyes punctuated by a very personal way of speaking, get ready to experience all the chaos and beauty of human kind.

Will he join the flow or make his way out? Will he discovered what the butterflies blossom is?

What fate will Magdad City allow him to have?
It is up to you to discover it.

I wrote this novel while being in my last year of art school but I never had it published or posted anywhere until now.

This story contains harsh languages, violence and mature content. So be sure you are fine with it.

Drugs, gangs wars and misery are his usual... But he doesn't really care. All he wants? To have fun...

And to forget that scum never leaves the slum...

Magdad City is the poorest town of the planet Terra Secundus, the new home world of Earth population, since the Great Exodus.

Born from the post-war repopulation of the planet, Magdad City emerged from the ground as the second economic capital of the newly formed world democracy.

Many generations later, the city is no more but a ghost of its previous self where gangs rule the city life and authority ensures that what grows in Magdad, stays in Magdad.

In an autobiographical narrative, Bastian recounts how he came to learn that freedom from the city comes with its own price and sacrifices.

Warning! This story contains what policies deem as controversial and sensitive subjects, including gun violence, parental abuse, rape, drugs, homophobia, prostitution and LGBQ topics.

It will be noted that to me, those topics are part of a bigger discussion about human societies that it is important to have. There is nothing taboo, nothing choking, because nothing is truly black and white. This is is just a story about how life can really be, with its up and down altogether, and what we can make of it.
