No one knows why the lights went out. There was no warning, no grand event leading up to it, just one day, the sun didn’t come up. The sky was devoid of stars, moon or sun. The world was thrown into complete and utter darkness. The world could have gone on, fires and electric lights helped keep society going, if only for a moment. It wasn’t until the creatures came that the world descended into chaos.
Monsters came from the darkness, horrible unnatural creatures, as if they were waiting for the world to fall before they struck. There wasn’t a single government that could handle the onslaught of horrors that came looming out of the darkness. And like hordes from hell, they swarmed upon the lands and wiped out the masses. The world ended in a matter of weeks.
After the civilized world fell, it wasn't long until the chaos began to rule. Small groups of people, banding together under the pretense of safety in numbers, but that was never the case. The monsters don't only come from the darkness.
There's something about the end of the world that brings out the worst in people. Gangs rule where creatures don't. Guns and fuel became currency amongst the ruling factions of the streets. Making anyone who isn't part of their crew’s life a living hell. As if it wasn't already.
When it wasn't some madman power tripping, the added noise of so many people in one place drew in the creatures. It was never very long before the artificial lights and the echoing sounds of people brought in the hordes like moths to flames. Consuming everything in their path, devouring anything they can get their claws into.
This is the new world, this is the world as we know it.
