A bone splitting cold lives in the air and snow continues to bury houses, a deafening wind blows and the howles created by the trees and wind is enough to muffle even the most bloodcurdling scream. One lone man treks through this waist high snow and as he struggles to force his foot through the snow he stops, “AAAHHH!!” a muffled scream echoed out and the man began to rush faster than before. He clenched his fist, “Damn It.” he gathered all of his strength and scrambled and pulled himself through the snow and to the small thatch hut the scream came from.
Inside the small thatch hut is a dimly lit fire, a large living area and two rooms on opposite sides of the living area. Inside the room to the left was a pregnant woman inside a meter wide stone basin, “One, Two, Three PUSH!” a scruffy blue haired man with pointed ears and skin like bronze shouted sternly. “AAAHHH!” she screamed again. “You’re almost there, I can see the head Allie!” said a plain looking light skin man with the smile of an eager child painted on his face. “Can you please… Shut UP Kayce! Call me Allison… not some pet name…” said the woman in pain.
Suddenly the door began Creaking, and they all looked to the opening door and the silhouette of the man standing there, “Bran-” and before she could finish saying his name he was by her side on his knees. He placed the palm of his hand on her face and watched the beads of sweat run down her face, smiled and said, “Allison, you’ve had some trouble. I’m home now though.” she smiled and looked at the snow in his obsidian beard and bright red ebony cheeks, she rubbed her weak and soft hands on his face, “Brannon, you made it home.” she said with a smile on her face.
“nice reunion, but she should really be pushing right now big brother.” the scruffy pointy eared man said lightheartedly, and they nodded to continue. After another minute or two the child finally was born. The child cried and once the scruffy elf cleaned her up he smiled, handed over the child to the mother and said. “She’s healthy.” and Kayce cut in and said, “she also has bran’s pigment.” Brannon smiled as he looked at his newborn daughter and said, “she’ll be a strong ebony warrior for the clan. I can feel it.” a welcomed statement that made all in the room slime.
However, there was one key difference in this child's appearance. The newborn girl was very strikingly different from first glance. The girl had claws in place of nails and a tail that protrude from her lower back, and not only that; her Xi was also naturally circulating in her body and the mana of the world was being pulled towards her. white and gold streams of mana encircled the child within her mother's arms. The mana seemed more like tendrils then streams after a few seconds, there were no words as everyone present in the room watched the scene unfold in the room. White, bronze, blue and red tendrils of mana dissipated as they merged into the child's body with surprising ease.
Allison smiled as she untied the ring she kept around her neck and put it on the baby and said, “she’ll be the bearer of the ring now.” and everyone else was speechless until Brannon spoke and said, “i’ll name her Elvina, it means elf friend. Or i think it does.” he turned his head over to the scruffy elf, “Thank you little brother, for all your help.” and he simply nodded and turned to leave and said, “she and my daughter will be raised together as family, and we will live peacefully for once Branon. No wars, no fighting for our lives like back home. Just peace and quiet, as a normal family.” and with those words he opened the door to a white sheet and disappeared behind it.
Branon smiled for a little bit before his face began to turn increasingly solemn as he looked at his newborn daughter with worry burning deep in his heart. He looked at his wife and she seemed to be entranced at the sight of the mana rushing around her child, pale blue, deep red, earthy brown, and the one that intrigued her the most was that the quality of the white and red mana inside her was the best of all. They were so entranced by the sight of their newborn daughter that they didn’t even notice the ring that she put on her neck began to glow, the stone began to fluctuate and a faint white figure was expelled from the ring.
This figure floated above the new family with a confused expression on its face and spoke, “it would seem someone has awoken me. I wonder how long it’s been?” When the figure finished speaking it realized that none of them could see or hear it and that’s when it noticed the child and a look of astonishment came across its face, “amazing this child’s body can naturally circulate Xi and the mana of the world is pulled to her at an inhuman rate, even for an Anzu she’s special. She’s got much more potential than even I had in my younger days.”
The spirit floated with a smile on it’s obscured face and after a few seconds of deliberation it finally floated down and hoverded inches away from the child's face, “you will be my student and successor, I know you cannot hear me currently so i’ll speak without caution. I will teach you everything I know and once the time comes, you’ll be a great fighter and mage. There will be no sole alive to rival you. Little girl, i will make you my perfect disciple.”
Once she finished speaking she touched the girl’s forehead and dissipated into the child’s body and the stone ring’s light faded away. The spirit was motionless and suspended in the girl’s mindspace, but this was all only the beginning for the two because the spirit spoke once more and said, “child my name is Yue and i am your teacher, from today onward we will live and train together from now until the day i depart from this plane. I will depart upon you; my thirty two years of knowledge and training, and I promise it won’t be easy. Though, if you had the ability to awaken me, you can handle my methods of training.” Yue immediately gave her a helping hand with her circulation and absorption of mana.
Days passed, which turned to weeks, the weeks became months and months ended in years. Four years have passed and the thatch hut isn’t the only weathered and damaged thing over the years. inside the thatch hut still remains two rooms, however there is now a large bamboo hut ten meters in height, width and length. “ELVINA!! Swing high and sweep low!” a woman yells at the top of her lungs from inside the bamboo hut. “Okay, I’m coming mom!” shouted the child and she charged at her mother full speed and dropped down to leg sweep, but her mother stepped back and avoided the attack.
The girl wasn’t done just yet though and to her mother’s surprise she vaulted off the floor effortlessly and lunged at her with her fist, but she looked at the girl and frowned, “not strong enough, and you’re too slow.” she said while catching the girl’s fist and throwing her to the side, “what the hell was that vault just now Elvina?!” her mother yelled, “you can’t even leg sweep properly, so why the hell are you doing all these acrobatics! Not only that, your punch was as weak as a human toddler's! You’re a second class Anzu, So use the damn power inside you!”
Elvina sat on the floor completely defeated and she spoke back, “I… I just don’t know how to use that power yet mom… I'll try harder.” After she finished speaking all she could do was sit on the floor, a sad child as her mother coldy sneered and said, “Go to the village square and wait for the rest of them to come. Today is the official test of your magic core and Xi affinity.” Elvina picked herself up, dusted off and headed to the village square. Once she had left Allison began to lothe teaching her and she muttered to herself, “why is she so weak, she’s my daughter she should be stronger. She’s taking too much time to learn, Althea is faster and was ten times her speed, strength and her reflexes couldn't even be comparable to Elvina’s at this age. Althea is much more talented and she’s not a thorn in my ass either, unlike Elvina. This young daughter of mine is sadly nothing special and it looks like she’ll never hold a candle to Althea.``” The thought of Elvina left a look of disgust on her face.
Meanwhile as a little Elvina was walking down a sanded path she was deep in thought, why is mom so mean? Why is she always saying I should be stronger than other kids my age? As she was running through countless unanswered questions in her head, Yue reached out to her via their mental link, “young student, do not fret over such things. What I've taught you is much better than her martial arts.” and Elvina replied back via mental link as well, “teacher, why can’t i use the martial arts you teach me?''
She asked, frustrated and deeply upset by her mother's actions, Yue then replied. “Young student, as I've said once before, what I teach may very well be a lost art in these times therefore, You are not to attack your mother with it. I will however, allow you to use it to block and counter, again remember You are not to attack her with any strike, understood.” she told Elvina in a fierce tone, Elvina just smiled and nodded her head and excitement flashed across her face for both the aptitude test and her next lesson with her mother.
Massive stone homes and even larger business buildings line the streets, along with decorations and music. Confetti floated through the air and people all gathered outside The Church of Divine Judgement monastery In the center of the town square. Elvina had just arrived and much like all the other kids her age she was in shock and awe at all the party streamers and confetti, however unlike most of the other children her age the snarls and scoffs directed her way was enough to shake her up.
Eyes filled with animosity and hatred looked at her as though she was a nuance that needed to be wiped from the face of existence. She felt as though she was under surveillance, that every move she made was being watched, that even a simple heavy exhale of air could put her in trouble with these people around and everyone hated her and sadly she wasn’t wrong. Even Though she tried to lay low, the townspeople knew what she was and that was never a good thing for Anzu.
Noble men and their entourages pushed Elvina to the side, “look at this, it’s a damn beast!” one of the men yelled as he ripped off her hood. “Look at her ratty hair! She even has a tail sticking out above her ass! What a freak!” she stumbled back and fell to the ground with fear in her eyes and when she tried to get up, a noble man grabbed her, picked her up and slammed her into the ground, “who said that you had any right to look at me Beast girl!” and before she had time to speak or react a boot was inches away from her face. STOMP! CRACK! “AAAHHH!!” she screamed as her nose shattered from the force and her head slammed into the ground, BANG!
“Dirty Anzu Bitch, you and your kind deserve death. Luckily today my son Will show his light magic Affinity, so I’ll let you off with just that. Remember to never raise your head in public. You’re no better than slaves” Once he left Elvina sat on the cobblestone ground and held her nose and waited for everyone to show up. She sat and held her face for an hour before someone came by and said, “Holy Coats! Little sis what happened !?” Exclaimed A young pointy eared girl no older than six. She had long beautiful pastel blue and red hair that flowed down past her waist, skin like caramel and a hearty diamond shaped birthmark under her right heterochromatic eye, the right eye was a pale blue while the left eye was deep red. “Dad! Go grab uncle Kayce! Elvina’s hurt!”
The same pointed ear man with deep blue hair and a really patchy beard pushed through the crowded streets and stood over the two girls like a towering statue, “Faye, tell me what happened to Elvina.” he said and she shrugged her shoulders and as his gaze turned to Elvina he asked her, “are you okay?” His voice is soft and gentle in nature. “Yes… yes, sir. A man came through a while ago and called me names and he hit me.” The man’s eyes turned sharp and cold, “Elvina, describe what he looks like.” he said with a tone so frightening that the girls began to shudder, “he was tall, and a noble. He… he had long golden hair and… blue eyes. His ears were pointy like Faye’s and your’s.”
he picked his head up and looked into the crowd and around the general area they were and said, “thanks Elvina, i’ll have a few words with him myself.” he paused and looked behind him and saw Kayce eating street vender food and shouted, “Kayce, stop eating and come over here. I’ll be gone for a few minutes!” and right as he was about to leave Elvina sat up on her knees, leaned forward and grabbed his pant leg, “please don’t make them angry, I… I don't want them to hurt you and Faye over me!” she pleaded with worry in her voice. “Please… please don’t go.” she said while sobbing at the thought of someone hurting Faye and her father.
"Hey, what’s up, why does it look like you guys had your food stolen?” asked Kayce as he walked up with char-grilled fish sauce all over his mouth and his face stuffed. He looked at Elvina’s shattered and bloody nose and chuckled, “I see, you got yourself into a little tussle, haven't you Ellie?” he asked with a smile and a genuine tone of joy, confused Elvina said. “I guess, uncle Kayce why are you happy?” and he kept on smiling and said, “I've got two great nieces and three amazing brothers. What’s not to be happy about?” he told them with the smile of an eager child on his face. “So i’m not part of your picturesque family Kayce.” said a woman with a cold and detached tone in her voice, “Elvina get up now, and wipe the blood away. Your nose is fine.” said the woman coldly, “yes mam.”
