SKRIKSI: The Morning Refused to Load

The World Demands an Artist

The World Demands an Artist

Jul 31, 2026

At the epicenter of the bed lay a three-bodied organism: Skriksi between her two fariads, Krik and Krai.

The bedroom rested in a soothing half-light. The first ray of morning slipped through a gap in the curtains and crept toward the sleepers’ faces.

The outside world egged Krik on in a whisper:

“Can you feel it? Energy! The world demands an artist!”

Before the ray could touch her, Krik snapped her eyes open. Her pupils were unnaturally wide.

“Can’t sleep... It’s a sign! Time to get up!” Unstoppable enthusiasm rang through every word.

Skriksi waved away the sudden break in the peace and tried to ignore reality.

“Leave me alone, Krik. Another time...”

Determined to conquer the morning, Krik seized the blanket with renewed force and flung it aside like a general ordering a charge. Skriksi jolted awake.

“Move, Skriks! Today won’t rewrite itself. Find the server! Start the render! Wash the sleep from your face with dawnlight!”

Krai let out a small, mournful sob and burrowed deeper beneath the pillow, retreating into a newly awakened instinct for self-preservation.

“Not this... I knew this would happen...”

Like a captain taking the helm in a storm, Skriksi seized control and dragged the gloomy Krai after her. Krai managed to hold on to the pillow, turning it into an unwilling sled across the cold floor.

Krik clapped out a marching rhythm as she led them toward the refrigerator.

From his usual post by the window, Filkis watched the scene with a critical eye. He stretched sleepily and snagged a claw in the curling wallpaper.

Krik swept across the kitchen and triumphantly pulled a half-eaten cake from the refrigerator.

“My instincts say this is breakfast!”

Skriksi confiscated the treat and handed Krai a portion of greens.

The salad scattered, a burst of living green against the sterile kitchen.

“Salad is the heroic choice of the morning,” Skriksi said.

Struck by sudden inspiration, Krik veered onto a new train of thought. She flung up her hands and charged toward the shelves where the unknown was stored, pulling Skriksi behind her. Skriksi could barely keep pace with the energetic leaps of her single-minded fariad.

Skriksi hurried to finish breakfast, chewing a piece of cucumber as she walked and trying to salvage something from the morning that kept slipping away.

But Krik’s speed brought Skriksi’s unhurried routine to a decisive end.

With the imperious air of a chess queen, Krik presented her with a book as though conferring a degree in unexpected research.

The ceremonial gesture sent the half-eaten cucumber tumbling from Skriksi’s hand. Once it landed on the floor, it ceased to matter. Its fate was sealed: ignored and forgotten in the service of something greater.

“Why?” Skriksi asked.

“Fate hinted that the answers we’re looking for are hidden in here,” Krik replied.

Skriksi gave Krik a reproachful look, but curiosity still pulled her deeper into the pages.

Krik donned a pair of absurdly oversized glasses and leaned over the book as well, determined to supervise the reading with proper academic rigor.

Thrilled by her new role as guardian of knowledge, she inspected every letter. Then her gaze froze on an unfamiliar word printed with suspicious significance on the very first page: “neurodiversity.”

With the conviction of a prophet, Krik jabbed a finger at the word as though pointing the way to a great discovery.

“This must be the missing piece of the puzzle! All we have to do is find the key to the riddle of consciousness, and everything in this reality will finally fall into place!”

Skriksi rolled her eyes.

“Yes, of course. And then we’ll have to fly to the Moon on a rocket instead of taking the train to the office, right?”

Krik missed the sarcasm entirely. With the grandeur of a great explorer, she launched herself into the world of gadgets.

“Stay here, everyone. I’m going after the answers!”

With the confidence of a seasoned explorer, she scaled the digital peaks of a search engine and typed: “Neurodiversity is...”

Before she could click Search, a video alert hijacked her attention:

“Cursed Animols — Don’t Miss the New Video!”

Krik forgot everything at once and vanished into the screen.

“Oh my God! Look—this little guy just declared war on his own reflection! And he absolutely loves boxes!”

In one coordinated move, Skriksi snatched the phone from her, desperately trying to restore order to their actions and thoughts amid the chaos of cat-diversity.

Keeping the educational objective in sight, she returned to the search.

“Well, it seems the diversity of zoomorphic memes has defeated the diversity of human intelligence. Neurodiversity has been postponed due to a neurodiversion...”

Krik put on her serious-scholar face, attempting to salvage her reputation while pretending not to have heard Skriksi.

“All right. We’ve raised morale before plunging into the academic wilderness. Nothing boosts intellectual combat readiness like a little harmless footage demonstrating animal behavior. A deliberate delay before the grand discoveries!”

Krik deftly recast her hyperactivity and ravenous appetite for novelty as academic passion.

Narrowing her eyes and assuming the solemn air of a shaman about to begin a ritual, she launched a mission titled “The Neurodiversity Summary.”

Passing off her restless movements as a plan, Krik darted around in search of a notebook and markers, as though only she knew the coordinates of a hidden stationery chest.

Once the treasures were found, Krik handed them to Skriksi with theatrical selflessness, so the new knowledge could be immortalized.

Krik gave her a smug wink, as though she held secret knowledge.

“Brace your brain, Skriks! Captain Brain Cartography is on deck! We’re launching into the galaxy of neurons. Armed with these markers, I’ll reveal the secrets of every twisted corner of the brain. Each marker is a damn teleporter to another part of cognitive space! Bam! Red—dangerous emotions. Boom! Blue—cold logic. And so on. You get it, right?”

Skriksi answered warily:

“Yes, Krik. I’d rather skip the intergalactic travel, though... I’m just trying to stick to the facts, you know?”

Skriksi tried to build a scientific framework in the notebook, while Krik, with the feverish zeal of a startup founder, surrounded her neat notes with postmodern frescoes of brains and abstractions.

Skriksi swatted Krik’s hand away from the notebook in frustration.

“Krik, did you drink the universe’s entire supply of creativity? Leave the notebook alone. I’m trying to concentrate!”

Already bored with the drawing session, Krik took theatrical offense and used the rejection as an excuse to turn her attention to something more interesting.

She wiped away imaginary tears.

“I’ll just take my boundless creative energy somewhere it’ll be properly appreciated!”The bedroom rested in a soothing half-light. The first ray of morning slipped through a gap in the curtains and crept toward the sleepers’ faces.
