The barrel of the gun was cold against my temple. In a strange turn of events, this wasn't even the first time it had happened to me... this week. I was pushed forward and I stumbled on purpose. My heart was beating fast against my ribcage, my mind clear despite the adrenaline and stress coursing through my veins. I couldn't believe that I was back here, where it had all started. Things had been so different back then that, seeing it now, it almost seemed like an alien planet.
"On your knees," growled my captor's voice.
Her hand, which was holding the back of my neck, pushed me to the ground. I grimaced, the uneven stone biting into my bare skin. The pants I wore were torn and dirty, especially in the knee area. A spotlight shone from the watchtower, illuminating us and forcing me to look down to avoid being blinded by the sudden brightness.
"I'll give you Sierra in exchange for the information I asked for," she called out to whoever was watching.
The amplified voice of General Klark answered her call, sounding mildly amused: "Stupid girl, we don't negotiate with people like you."
A gunshot rang out, hitting the marble statue right behind where my captor was standing a second ago. I clenched my jaw, ready for what was coming next. "Do it," I murmured without moving my lips.
The barrel of the gun left my temple. Then something hard hit the side of my head and darkness engulfed me.
