The air was thick with haze. The child hunkered in the cave, terrified as the sound of a wolf's howl carries through the wind. The boy had little idea how he got there but knew he had to leave. The sound seemed to be coming closer with every whisp. The wolf was approaching it seemed, from the right of the cave. The boys heart pounded in his chest. Thump thump. Thump thump. He couldn't catch his breath. Saying 'I'm scared' is an understatement for he was terrified out of his mind. He didn't know what to do. Again his breath caught in his throat. His eyes welled with tears. He didn't understand why he was there or what he was going to do, but he knew he had to get out. And it had to be soon. He wanted to get home to his parents. He just didn't know how. The boy curled up like a scared kitten in the back of the cave. He listened as the howl of the wolf came closer and closer and with it his fate. When it seemed to be almost upon him, there came a vicious growl from outside the cave followed by a whine, and then silence. The boy began to cry. The night dragged on and the boy dosed off into restless sleep. A sleep plagued with the demons of fear and hunger. As the night slipped into dusk the boy started to awaken. He looked around and seeing that he was still in the cave began to cry again. His stomach began to growl loudly. He wished he were home in his warm bed instead of here. Sleeping did nothing for his memory, he still couldn't remember how he got there or why he was even there. The thought of home made him shiver at the realization of just how cold it really was. As his stomach began to growl again he got up a roamed the cave looking for something to eat. Finding nothing he feared having to go outside and get food. 'What if I cant find anything?' he said to himself. 'What if I get eaten instead?' He walked up to the entrance of the cave and looked out. It was pitch black out and he couldn't see a thing. He decided to go back and lay down. Not long after he dosed off. When he awoke again he found that someone one had left him food, an apple and a fish along with wood and a flint and steel. How it got there he had no clue for it wasn't thee hours ago. He looks around again and to his dismay still finds nothing. No sign of other life or of how the food got there. He got up from where he was laying and again checked out the caves entrance and was blinded by the light of sun. When his eyes adjusted he took in the scenery. The chameleon trees shifted colors in the light of the sun. It was only July but autumn had already found this place. He walked out of the cave and took a slow spin around to take in the scene. The scents flooded his nose. He could smell the leaves in the crisp wind. He shivered as a brisk wind overcame him. He gazed up and saw hummingbirds of all colors. The air smelled of the sweetness of spring with a hint of autumn. The boy had no idea where he was but it seemed so new. So different, until he found...
