I stepped out of the car as I pushed my hands into my coat pocket as I walked ahead, a massive crowd of new and returning students were around me instantly making my person feel a bit anxious of the fact it was the most people I’ve been around in a long time. I just flicked the hoof of my jacket up, it was one of those weird leather jackets with the attached the hood. I just kept my eyes a bit down as I looked ahead, there were tables littering the edge of the quad with signs of all sorts for clubs: artsy clubs, debate, skating, various sports, no Greek life or anything like that, but every other possible type of club. The balconies along the buildings around us were also adorned with more banners. As I looked up towards a few, this person shaped void of darkness seemed to bolt away from that building deeper into the school’s grounds before soon being followed by a bright icy silvery-white burst that blasted my hood off my head and made my hair fly back.
There was a sign that said First Years This Way with an arrow pointing down the pathway, I just walked the direction the arrows were pointing, the arrows marked the pathway down the main drag of the grounds, the buildings were…a bit taller than I was expecting them to be in comparison to how they looked on the map. I flicked my hood back up to avoid the prying eyes around me.
“Mister Shepherd” A voice said making me flinch a little as this deep, deep rumbling voice boomed out from a pathway as a figure walked out, instantly making the people around them back away and a few respectful bowed heads in greeting as he walked. He is a quite tall, broad shouldered and heavily built man covered in muscles, but dressed in a burgundy colored suit with a evergreen dress shirt patterned with tiny white spots and a dusty gold ascot, hands atop a large cane and glossy dress shoes. He has deep rich skin that has a slight red tone to it and long black hair in locks and braids adorned with jewelry, charms and pieces like that, strong regal features with out of place eyes that are icy pale blue, a strong nose with a bump in it and as he smiled showed thick tusks and fangs, heavy dark brows set in a permanent scowl and ridged bat like ears. His hands were covered in scales of deep, rich grays with dark gray talons, his legs were digitigrade with lion like feet, a long tail dragged behind him covered in scales of iron and stony grays like a dragon, a pair of bat wings in all grays were folded to his back and a single short pair of blunt horns swept up from his temples only a few inches or so long. “You are…earlier than we expected, but please…this way”
“Who…who are you?” I asked, but took a few steps towards him. He had a soft smile and a warm expression as I had my arms crossed.
“I am Headmaster Allister von Blake.” He said before sighing softly, “Your mother…did not explain much about what she was, what she could do or…what you could do.” He explained before motioning me to follow. “Don’t worry about the housing ceremony, that is scheduled for about noon and its only about eight or so right now.” He explained as I walked alongside him as he walked through the winding pathways leading towards the main school building.
“What…what is all of this?” I asked motioning around me, “How…how is all of this here? Am…am I dead? I saw my mother talking to me the other week.”
“Kain, breathe…I can hear your heart racing over here.” He said as we walked up to the side of the main building, there was a low, wide circular projection with a green roof and a wide doorway ahead which opened as he flicked a hand. I followed through the doorway before through the huge open lobby, outside was only three floor, but inside was upwards of seven or so floor, I could barely see the ceiling far above me, the walls all white marble spotted and speckled with gold and silver with mirror like flecks across it and pale gray veining, the lobby was perfectly circular with open hallways up the floors edged in turquoise and gold colored railings, evenly set fluted pillars that were a thick white colored glass with matching turquoise/gold flared bases and tops, smooth marble flooring in softer cream tones and the ceiling a rich brilliant emerald with a massive crystalline chandelier hanging deep into the column room, staircases of the same railing and dark wood swirled around the room with both ending at the far end flanking a very wide and open square archway of turquoise filigree, halls branched off in all directions, but I could see doors along each floor, even down here in dark wood and gold with gold numbers above the frames. My boots were quiet against the mosaic panel in the center of the room, the floor was a softer creamy ivory toned stone, but that same school emblem was a massive mosaic centered in the room, the circle was at least twice my arm’s span wide. Intricate emerald green art-deco style lights marked the walls between the pillars, there were small dark wood or stone tables with flowers and all sorts of pieces of artwork on them, there paintings, tapestries among many other types of artwork adorned the wall…everywhere you looked…was luxury.
“Oh…wow” I said quietly as I looked around, slowly turning on my feet as I looked around.
“Follow me, please, Mister Shepherd” Headmaster Blake said as he walked down a side-hall that spread off to the right of this circular room, his expensive dress shoes clacking against the stone floor as he walked, a sharp click of his cane against the floor punctuated by the soft echoing of the sound down the solid stone and glass halls of the building…I felt extremely out of place to the extent I had a thought about turning and running, but I breathed deeply before swallowing hard to steel my nerves before I followed behind him.
