Just a budding artist trying to create a story that people will enjoy and find interesting. RockSalt is a story I've been developing since around 2009 or so, and it's gone through many revisions and iterations before I was finally ready to present it to the viewing public on June 1, 2016. While it was always a detective story, the nature of what they investigated, as well as the actual characters themselves, have gone through serious changes since the original concept, and I think I've finally come across the right combination of characters and concepts to create a compelling story.

Because of the nature of the webcomic medium, I'm trying to avoid long protracted story arcs like the ones you see in weekly or monthly manga; instead, the story will proceed on a case-by-case basis. Some cases will be longer than others; the first case is a lengthy one, but a lot of the ones following it are not. However, it won't all be casework; there will be lighter chapters in the future that focus more on day-to-day life (though I don't know when that will happen, it will happen eventually).

Now for part two of Fenrir Island:

Fandujo, due to its size and diversity in its population, is divided into four districts, or wards. Solona, in the south, is the main industrial district of the city, where the bulk of manufacturing is done. The lower income members of the population mostly live here, and there are even a few abandoned buildings already. Raydos is situated in the center of the city, and it is the most culturally diverse. Its population is comprised primarily of the middle class, and it is also the home of a large arena where sporting events are held. Not only do Elizabeth and Blair run their private investigation business here, Blair also lives in this ward. The third ward, Sanaija (pronounced SAN-ay-ya), is in the northwest and is seen as the center of academia. All of the main institutions of higher learning are situated here, as well as the majority of the city's Asian population. This ward also houses art galleries and museums. The fourth ward, Quaden, is the smallest district, but it is arguably the most important, as all of the government buildings reside here. It also has the wealthiest members of the population. Elizabeth resides in this district, along with many of her friends.

The island, as you would expect, got its name from the fact that its geography takes the shape of a wolf's head, something that was deliberately taken to a further extreme by its two ports, where the docks were intentionally built to resemble a wolf's fangs. Due to its location, people of all races and cultures have made their home on Fenrir over the years, residing either in Fandujo or Fenris. Either way, both communities have prospered, and have had zero issues with isolating themselves from the rest of the world.

This has turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it turns out that this island is also home to more than a few terrible secrets that could possibly put the rest of the world into a panic were they ever became known…

Time for the second announcement: more world building! In this post, we're gonna talk about the setting of the story: Fenrir Island. Exposition incoming! This is part one of this mysterious island.

The Island of Fenrir is a small land mass discovered in the Pacific Ocean sometime in the 1950s after the second World War. It is unknown who discovered it, and its location was kept under wraps until about ten years prior to the beginning of this story. By this time, the island has become an officially recognized nation, one that operates independently of American politics and policies, despite of the recent wave of emigration there by former Americans in the last two years due to an increasingly hostile political climate.

There are only two cities on Fenrir: the urban city-state known as Fandujo (which means “melting pot” in the Esperanto language), which is situated along the western coastline of the island, and the suburban farming city of Fenris, situated east of Fandujo and provides agriculture and other important necessities to the residents of the entire island. It is currently unknown what lies within and beyond the mountains on the eastern part of the island. Expeditions through those areas were deemed so dangerous that no one has made any attempt to explore it in over thirty years.

So, the last update concluded the prologue of RockSalt.'s story. This Saturday's update will begin the first chapter proper (though I technically count the prologue as part of chapter 1).

What do you all think of what's going on so far? Are you intrigued by the goings on yet?
