Been sick with a bad fever lately, so I haven't been able to schedule any uploads! And since today's entry for "Bronwen's Journal" is so short, I put up the next one, too.
Okay, so - Episode 13 didn't actually post, it just stayed in Draft mode this whole time! >_< So, I had to delete 14 and 15, Publish 13, and re-upload 14 and 15.
Whew!
If going from 12 to 14 was a bit abrupt, that's why. Unfortunately I had to get rid of all your hearts and comments. T_T But I did see them, and I appreciate it!
Hello! I've been very busy with life lately, including Renaissance Faire (I work there), kiddo going back to school, and numerous other "Real Life" things hitting me from all sides!
I'm not abandoning Plague Rat - Not by a long shot - but I've been feeling the itch to write, so I've also been working on a Skyrim fanfic. I've written quite a bit of it, so I'm going to start sharing it here, too.
It's been helping me a lot. Usually, when I hit burnout on the comic, I'll slow down and binge for a few weeks on video games, then I'll burn out on gaming and go back to comic-ing, then I'll burn out, go game... You see the problem! That's not healthy!
So, I devised a plan and it's been working great! I'm a lot happier, too. ^_^
I play a day in Skyrim, then I stop when my character goes to sleep. I then write an in-character journal entry, and I don't play again until the entry is finished. It limits my gaming so I can't binge on it, and it forces me to take a break, becasue I'm posting the journal entries as I write them, and people are reading them. I can't write unless I game, so... I have to take breaks, and exercise my creative muscles in ways that I normally don't get to.
This also means fanart, which I haven't drawn in forever because, well... I had it in my head that all drawing energy -must- be reserved for the comic!
Silly, right?
So, there you have it. I'll be posting the comic and the fanfic here. I hope you like it!
I used to sell my jewelry at markets and events, but the pandemic closed them down. No shows meant no money, so I couldn't make more jewelry. So, I worked on my story.
Then I saw an old photo while doomscrolling FB.
It was taken about 18 years before. The photo was of a college party I'd attended, and the person who posted it asked if anyone knew the "Girl in Black".
It was me! I remembered that party. I had a great time! I said as much, and the person's reply gave me chills.
"Oh thank God! Everyone else in that pic is dead!"
There were at least a dozen other people in the picture. Covid got them all.
All except me.
That same day I booked a checkup. I went to my doctor, and he was amazed. My years of metalwork had fixed my hands!
To celebrate, I bought Clip as an Xmas gift for me, and on Jan. 1st, 2021, I started drawing Plague Rat. I was very rusty art-wise, but I feel like my skills are almost back.
I'd always dreamed of making a comic. Thanks for helping it happen!
A lot's been going on! My 12 year old computer got a much-needed motherboard and processor upgrade! I've got the new proof copy of Issue 3, and I've begun my own Training Arc. Or rather, Re-Training Arc.
---
You see, I used to be an animator. I even went to school for it. But I worked myself so hard that I got carpal tunnel in both of my wrists just two years past college. It was so bad that my hands would lock up into claws!
The doctors said there wasn't much they could do, and that I'd never do art professionally again. I didn't know what to do. I'd dedicated my life to drawing, and suddenly I couldn't even hold a pencil.
Growing up, my grandpa taught me metalworking, so I started making jewelry. I could use pliers for short bursts, then saws and hammers... I made a jewelry business and that's what I did for years.
But I missed art. During the pandemic, I got the idea for the comic and it wouldn't leave my head...
But on a more serious note - I'm working hard to get back on my regular update schedule! I lost my buffer when I ran into trouble printing Chapter 2, and that, combined with the convention AND the holidays, have set me waaaay off track.
For now, my plan is to get back on my Wednesday & Saturday schedule, then build up my buffer.
Thank you all for hanging in there as I get caught up! ^_^ Your'e awesome!
