Owen~ June 9
I messed up. I messed up big time.
I just had to pick this house, didn't I? I should have just pushed on to the next. Then maybe I wouldn't have found myself in the situation I'm in now.
My nerves were on end, and my instincts were screaming at me to run as I sat on the end of the couch I had been sleeping on not too long ago. My whole body was tense as I kept my head bowed, eyes focused solely on my hands clasped in my lap.
The redhead whose house I broke into sat on the far end of the L shaped couch. He looked almost as nervous as I did. He kept his gaze on the floor. He had his elbow on the armrest with his chin cradled in his palm, fingers covering his mouth. I guessed his name was Roman since that was what his friend kept calling him.
I flinched when the man standing to close for comfort shifted his weight. I risked glancing up at him and instantly regretted it. My gaze was met with a murderous crimson colored death stare. My heart leaped into my throat, and my gaze darted back to the floor.
Yep. I am definitely going to die here.
The man staring daggers into my skull was named Kane from what I understood, and he was just like me. A Lycan. Of course, the one house I choose to hide in would be the territory of another Lycan and to top it all off, he's an Alpha.
I had never encountered an Alpha before. And now I'm trapped in close quarters with one who's ready to tear my throat out if I so much as breathe wrong. I pretty much dug my own grave when I attacked his friend.
"So..." Roman started. Neither of us looked at him as he spoke. "You're a... a werewolf? Are you saying... you turn into...?" His voice shook as he took a deep breath and fell silent again.
"Lycanthropy," Kane corrected without looking at his friend. "But, yes."
I shifted uncomfortably as I wrung my hands in my lap. If it weren't for the fact that I had nowhere to go, I probably would have tried to run. But I didn't have anywhere else to go. I decided to take my chances with a pissed off Alpha rather than those people who experimented on and tortured me.
"Show me."
We both turned to look at Roman. His face showed that he was serious. He wanted Kane to prove what he was. I looked back at the man. His eyes were wide as he stared at the human.
"What? Roman, I don't thi-"
"Show me." He repeated.
Kane clenched his jaw. He looked like he was really considering it. Was he really going to shift in front of this human? Kane spared me a quick glance before looking at Roman again.
"Okay." He took a deep breath and moved to the middle of the front room. He glanced at Roman as he started the pull his shirt over his head. "Don't freak out, alright?" He kicked his shoes off before pulling his pants and underwear down and pushing them to side. He stood completely naked in front of us, but no one focused on that fact. Roman kept his eyes locked with Kane while I was trying in vain to keep mine from wondering over his beautiful body. His skin was lightly tanned; his muscles were well defined without being insanely huge. Definitely the body of an Alpha.
"Are you sure?" Kane asked, pulling me back from my thoughts. I tore my gaze off of him and looked over at Roman. He slowly nodded his head. If I focused, I could hear his heart pounded against his ribcage. I could smell so many emotions coming off of him as well.
Popping and cracking pulled me back to Kane. He got down on his hands and knees, and we watched as the shift took over his body. He grunted and groaned as his bones reformed themselves under his skin. His back arched and he dropped his head onto his forearm on the floor. The sound of his limbs breaking and reforming made even me cringe. He had slowed the process way down so Roman could see the transition. Kane lifted his head and looked at the human. Sweat coated his whole body at this point. Beads ran down his face and dripped onto the floor; his eyes glowed red once again, he was breathing heavily, and his sharpened teeth glistened in the light. His eyes closed and he groaned as his face morphed. His muzzled pushed out and his groan turned into a low growl. Brown fur started to grow over every inch of his body. A tail sprouted at the base of his spine and ears formed on top of his head.
An enormous brown wolf stood before us now. Head hanging, his tongue hung from his mouth as he caught his breath. He was tall and well built as an Alpha should be. He had to be close to 6 feet tall at his shoulders. I knew Alphas were bigger, but I didn't think they were that big. His coat had varying shades of brown to black. The closer to his spine the darker it got.
His tongue flicked over his nose before he laid his ears back and looked up at Roman. The man was on his feet. His mouth hung open as he stared in shock at the wolf that took up a good portion of the room.
Kane lowered himself to the floor and inched a little closer to his friend. Roman closed his mouth and swallowed hard as he stared at the wolf that had been his friend moment ago. Roman reached out a shaky hand towards the beast. "Kane?" The wolf let out a soft whine as he raised his head and licked Romans fingers. The human's whole body jolted as he jerked his head back slightly.
Kane whimpered as he tried to get a little closer and lick Romans hand again. His eyes were pleading for the man's acceptance. I couldn't understand why he cared so much if this human accepted him though.
It was definitely a sight to behold. Watching an Alpha grovel on the floor to get a humans trust. But that's precisely what Kane did. He stayed low to the floor with his ears folded back as he waited for Roman to make a move. The man reached his hand out a little further but stopped himself before he could touch the fur onto of the Alpha head. Kane held perfectly still, and we both held our breath as we watched Roman. He took a shaky breath then placed his hand on Kane's furry head. The wolfs eyes closed, and he leaned into the human's touch.
"So this is the real you?" He breathed. Kane nodded his head slightly. "Okay," Roman whispered as he started to nod his head. He took a few steps back and collapsed onto the couch. Kane yelped as he surged forward. Wide-Eyed, Roman held his hands up, and the Alpha was quick to stop himself. His ear folded back again, and he whimpered, lowering himself back to the ground. The man visibly relaxed. Placing his hands on his thighs, he slowly leaned forward and looked at the wolf. The two stared in silence at each other. Kane's eyes had changed back to their normal aqua blue.
As the staring contest drew out, Roman finally smiled down at the wolf. "You're still my Kane. I can see it in your eyes." He said quietly.
Kane's ears shot forward, and he perked up. His tail drummed against the floor as he gave Roman a wolfs best attempt at a grin. The wolf jumped forward. Before he collided with Roman, he was human again and wrapped his arms around the man's neck. Roman yelled in surprise as he was crushed by the naked man. He began to laugh. "That's the Kane I know." He chuckled as he hugged him back.
"I was so scared you were going to hate me," Kane mumbled against Roman's shoulder. Kane slid down the couch till his knees hit the floor. Keeping his hold on his friend, he forced Roman to lean forward.
I stared in confusion at the two. I couldn't believe how fast this Alpha had gone from threatening to kill me, to being on the verge of tears in the arms of a mere human. I couldn't believe how fast this human had accepted that his friend was a Lycan either. Just what kind of relationship did these two have?
I cleared my throat. "I'm still here," I called to the two of them. Kane pulled away and shot me a murderous glare. I flinch when his eyes flash red.
That wasn't very smart, I mentally noted.
