The trio continued down the street after the encounter with Reaper. They made a quick turn into a small laundromat and walked into the far corner. They looked around.
Torbjörn: “Well, I’m gonna head for Germany to check in on Reinhardt and Brigitte. I feel he should know about what is happening on Mars. I won’t be calling ahead and I will travel off the grid as much as possible. With Reaper now knowing we teamed up, we are all in trouble. You guys should split up too. I expect you to keep in touch, Sombra.”
He walked out. The two girls looked at each other. Symmetra started to interrogate Sombra; how can it be that she lost track of Widowmaker and Reaper - and how did they find Sombra just as she was with Torbjörn and herself? She wanted answers - and real ones this time. Not to mention that heist, what the cause was and what the money was needed for. She threatened to just walk away and finally Sombra cracked.
Funds were needed for the tech that Sombra needed to expose a corrupt government in South America. South America had been thriving for a lot of years and was well underway to be a developed country - but the government was still undermined in a lot of places, no less because of the history that the countries on the continent has gone through.
Symmetra knew her well enough that there was more to it - Sombra wasn’t the type to solely go for charity. There had to be something in it for her. Symmetra turned around, heading for the door, when she felt Sombra grabbing her hand. She stopped. Turns out a good friend of Sombra was going for a high position in the government in one of the biggest areas in South America. Symmetra walked away, satisfied.
Sombra sat in the corner of the laundromat, exhausted and a little disoriented, but more than everything else, really fed up with everything. She just wanted to get Talon off her back and she was disgruntled with the fact that she had tangled up her good friend into this mess. She felt a hand on her arm and looked up, only to meet Symmetra’s sweet eyes and a smile that warmed her heart. Sombra started tearing up, which she usually would never do. Before she could react, she just broke into tears and Symmetra quickly sat down beside her, holding her.
They sat there, just the two of them, for half an hour, did not say anything to each other. Just feeling the closeness and the warmth of the other one. Symmetra caressed Sombras neck and softly squeezed her upper arm, followed by a small, soft hug. She got back on her feet and walked out. Sombra watched her walking out - she felt alone as never before. She had always been a loner, but Symmetra showed her great care which no one else never really had.
Sombra’s mind wandered, she thought about her life, people she had met over the years. Was she doing the right thing, and for what cause? Was power and money all there was to it in life? She had been of that opinion since she was a little girl - power and money will get you what you want and need. Having someone in her life not caring about that, but caring about her, as a person, had made her doubt on her belief. She smiled for herself. She was very suddenly ripped from her thoughts when someone stepped into the room and opened one of the washers. She quickly got on her feet, dried off her wet cheeks with her sleeve and dusted off her clothes. Then she walked out the back.
She walked the streets, in deep thought. Now what. This was as far as her plan went and the ambush by Reaper and Widowmaker did not help. In the back of her mind, she had planned to go with Symmetra to wherever she thought was a good idea - of the two of them, Symmetra was the one with the cool head and the solutions. When she rounded the corner into the city’s big square, a poster with an ad for some beverage that used the Moon as backdrop made it click. She needed eyes on Talon.
She hailed a cab and headed for the town’s underground internet cafe. She had an acquaintance there that let her borrow a computer there from time to time. She was hoping her friend would be there tonight. She really needed to get in touch with Winston, as he might have snagged up something - she expected that Reaper and Widowmaker would update Talon on today’s assassination attempt.
She arrived at her destination, paid the cab and went inside. While she did steal from the rich, she knew when it was right to pay people for their services. She greeted her good friend, and walked over to her usual spot, over in the corner, where no one could see the screen she was using. A surprised Winston looked into the camera. “Sombra?” his face changed, he wasn’t fond of her, so he wasn’t happy with the surprise call as she had just started the camera feed out of his control. He grunted, “What do YOU want?” Sombra put on her typical careless, always in control, face and smirked. “Sorry for the surprise call, big boy. This…” she leaned forward and with a lower voice she said “...might surprise you, but I need your help.”
Winston’s face changed from disgruntled to surprised. “I imagine it might have to do with Talon. Wait a minute” - he disconnected the call. Sombra gnarled. She didn’t like it when people hung up on her. She found it rude - and in this case, it was. Winston did this on purpose, but she also knew he was a monkey of his word. He would get back to her soon.
