The moment I heard Roses voice on the phone I knew something was wrong, I just hadn’t realized how bad it was. The last time Lily had cried was when she was ten and had fallen out of the tree she loved so much and broke her arm. She hadn’t even cried that much then, just a few tears. When I arrived at the house I went straight to the backyard to the old weeping willow. Lily was climbing down from the tree and looked like she had been hit by a truck. I walked over to her and caught her just as she was about to drop down to the ground. I sat down with her in my arms, back agents the tree trunk, her head tucked under my chin. It was another hour before she stopped crying and another fifteen minutes of silence before I looked down at her face and smiled. She had cried herself to sleep.
“What had made you so upset?” I asked her knowing that she wouldn’t answer. I sat there with her in my lap, just enjoying the feel of her body against mine. After a while, I figured it was time to take her inside, picking her up I carried her to her room. I laid her down on her bed and brushed her hair back from her face before walking out of her room and closing the door behind me. I found Rose and some guy sitting in the kitchen drinking tea, walking over to them I took a seat next to Rose. “She’s asleep. With how late it is she will probably sleep all night.” Rose nodded and thanked me for coming over. “You know I’ll do anything for you and Lily. Good night Miss. R, I’ll see you tomorrow.” I nodded at the man and walked out of the house.
