Closer

Mar 06, 2018

He took me to his table, which was in a horrid state might I add, but that's criticism for another day.
"There have been numerous cases of people going missing for these past few months and have been given a note. Do you have one?" He asked.
I reached into my pocket hesitantly, and gave it to him, with my hand quivering. He snatched it out of my hand. Rude.

He read it. A smirk appeared on his face, so this was normal?
"So?" I asked, trying my best to sound polite. "As suspected."
He explained to me what happened so far, there are no suspects. Only victims. No trace of other family members or the mastermind behind this.
He asked what my name was. I said it was Lauren Lim. He noted it down.
Did they find ou- never mind that.
I shook my head, trying to get that thought out of my head.
They can't know what I did. No one can know.
It was a mistake.
"Where do you live?" He asked
" At Anderson Road."
He asked me to follow him, so I did.
I let him into my house. He put on his gloves on, cautious.
The completely empty house gave me the chills. It is normally lively with the television always on. Hopefully, he does not look in the- stop it Lauren.
He mostly inspects the living room area, there was no slight trace of blood, so they were not murdered int he house or anything, but I am not letting that thought slide away when there is always a possibility.
"Hm.." He mumbled "No fingerprints."
He checks outside for footprints. Only one on the grass. He fishes out his phone and takes a picture of it.
From seeing the footprint, you could hardly make out anything but I had faith that he can at least do something.
"M"he said. "Do you know any shoe brand with the letter M as the logo?"
I shook my head. I don't wear any sort of high heels and there are so many possibilities too.
He drove us back to the police station. The only thought that was on my mind was how the other people felt.
Fear.
Sadness.
Maybe not guilt.
This may have all been caused by me.
And I was going to fix it. That was a promise I was going to keep.

They found some evidence, but what could it mean?
