After class I met up with Meli and we headed to the dining hall. We ordered our dinner to go and where surprised when they brought our food out in plastic containers and a purple fabric tote bag that had A Kitchen Witch dinner to go printed on it in bright blue letters.
“Wow this place has everything.” I said to Meli who agreed. We grabbed the bag and headed out of the school. We were tired of hiding in our room and afraid that someone might over hear us, so I decided to take her to the spot that Hayden and I had found the other night. We walked through the woods until we came to the spot with the sand and water.
“This is beautiful Lily. How did you find this?” I told her how Luke had brought Hayden’s motorcycle up for him as a gift and we went for a ride and ended up finding this little spot.
“So what did you find at the library?” I pulled out the book I found and handed it to her.
“Dream walking? How did you find this?”
“It kind of just fell off the shelf and when I picked it up I knew it was the book I needed.” she handed it back to me and I opened it up.
“What does it say?”
“Dream walking is a way to visit other people’s dreams. It can be fun and exciting but also dangerous. Dream walking is a way to understand what another person’s subconscious are worried, excited, or scared about. When dream walking don’t get lost. Remember who you are. You do not want to get lost in someone else’s subconscious.”
“Okay…so do we try it?” I flipped forward in the book to find the spell to do the dream walking.
“It looks easy enough. We just need another person with us in case we need help.”
“But who? The boy’s aren’t allowed inside our dorm and we shouldn’t do this outside our room.”
“What about Cara?”
“I don’t know Lily. We don’t know her very well and I don’t want this to get out.” I understood where Meli was coming from. I wouldn’t want everyone to know my secret either. But we really don’t have much of a choice.
“We can either come out here with Hayden and Gavin or chance someone happening upon us or we can trust Cara.” Meli nodded and we headed into the castle.
We decided to invite Cara to dinner tomorrow and collect the things we would need for the spell during Magick class. When I got to my room I plopped into bed and started reading the dream walking book. Dream walking involves complete contraction on where you want to be. Picture yourself where you want to be and then say the spell. Things that are needed, calming candles, incense to boost physic ability and clairvoyance, spells and charms. Okay I bet I can find this stuff in Magic class and that got me thinking about a sleep spell. I bet that would relax Meli more, help her focus on her dream and make it easier for me to get in. I got up from bed and headed down to the girls dorm sitting room. Looking over the book shelves I searched for a spell book.
“Want some help?” I jumped surprised by the sudden voice behind me. I turned around and found Cara standing behind me.
“Jeez Cara you scared me.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to scare you. I was reading over there and when I saw you come down I thought I would see if you wanted help looking for whatever it was your looking for.”
“Oh. Yeah that would be great. Do you know where I can find a spell book?”
“Sure.” Cara walked over to the far end of the bookshelf and stood on her tiptoes. She pulled out a thick brown leather back book.
“Here you go. Can I ask why you need it?”
“I’m looking for a sleeping spell.”
“Ah, having trouble sleeping?”
“Umm, something like that.” I looked Cara over.
“Cara can I trust you?”
“Yeah. I’m not one to gossip and I tend to keep to myself.”
“Would you want to have dinner with Meli and me tomorrow?”
“Yeah that would be great?” I clutched the book to my chest and said goodnight to Cara before heading back up to my room.
Meli was fast asleep when I got back so I quietly closed the door and headed over to my bed. Taking a seat cross legged on the bed, I opened the spell book. “To remember spells that you use you should keep a Book of Shadows also known as a Grimier. Every family has a book of shadows that has been passed down through the ages. Keeping a personal book of shadows is a good way to keep track of spells, potions, rituals, and recipes.” I flipped the book to spells. “Sleeping spell, sleeping spell, sleeping spell. Ah, here we go. Sleeping spell. I need a calming candle, Agrimony, a moon stone and to chant the following spell. Agrimony? What’s Agrimony and where am I going to get a moon stone?” I pulled out my Candles, Colors and their Meanings book and started to flip through it. Two candles stood out to me, silver and blue. “Silver is for goddesses, austral energy, female energy, telepathy, clairvoyance, and dreams. Blue is for wisdom, direction, calm, good fortune, communication, and spiritual interaction. That should work. Now I need to find out what agrimony is and where to find a moon stone.” I closed all my books and put them away. The more we get into this dream meaning stuff, and every time Meli has a new one I feel more and more like something bad is going to happen.
Lecture day. After breakfast Meli, Gavin, Hayden and I headed down to the lecture hall, which to my surprise was outside in the courtyard. A small podium stood in the middle of everything. Stone benches were carved into the hill surrounding the podium. We walked up the stone steps that were carved into the side of the hill until we found a place to sit. I pulled out my notebook and sat it down on the stone table in front of me. From the far side of the hill coming from the school Mr. Terrain walked up to the podium.
“If everyone could take a seat please.” Mr. Terrain said his voice echoing off the stone surrounding him. He stepped up to the podium and played with his papers until everyone was seated and quite.
“Welcome first years to your first lecture. In this class we will talk about many things. Today we are going to start with our Goddesses and the Horned God. We will also go over Arcane, Blood Witch, and Earth Witches.” He paused and looked over the students. “Does anyone know who are Goddess are?” Many students raised their hands. He looked around “Cara” he said her name and she stood up.
“Our Goddess is also known as the Triple Goddess. She is the Moon Goddess; she also stands for the stars and for fate. Her identity is comprising we see her in many different forms. A maiden, a mother, and a crone. Each one has a different association. The maiden is for virginity, the mother is for fertility and the crone is for wisdom. Our Goddess is also known to go by Diana. She can manifest in personal form, dreams, and visions, through bodies of the Priestess and Priests.” Finished Cara took her seat and we waited for Mr. Terrain to continue.
“Thank you Cara. Now who can tell me why our Goddess has so many different forms. Zale can you tell us?” Zale dropped her nail file on her table and stood.
“It is so she can appear to us as we need her.” as soon as she was done she was back in her seat and filing her nails.
“Why a maiden? Why a mother? Why a crone?” Mr. Terrain asked looking around at everyone. I raised my hand and waited to be called on. “Yes, Lily how do you view all this?” I stood up and looked at my teacher.
“You say that our Goddess is a Moon Goddess and that she has three aspects. I think that means that she follows the stages of the moon.” I sat back down in my seat. I don’t like being the center of attention, it makes me awkward and shy.
“Very good Lily, The triple Moon Goddess is one Goddess with three phases of life that correspond with the phases of the moon. The maiden represents the waxing moon phase, the mother represents the full phase and the crone represents the waning. Now some say there is another Goddess, a sister Goddess. A Dark Goddess who holds the new moon phase. The story is that our Goddess banished her sister to human form for a hundred lifetimes, cursed to be born die and be reborn again, all for sleeping with the Horned God. There is a prophecy that reads when the Dark Goddess is born again for the one millionth time and becomes a teen she will take over and destroy the world. Covering everything in darkness and evil.” the lecture continued for a few hours before Mr. Terrain ended it. The whole time all I could think about was what he said about the Dark Goddess. There was something about it that called to me. Like a warning. With the lecture over we were given free time for the rest of the day. I grabbed a quick lunch before heading to the library. Pulling out all the books I could on moonstones, agrimony and the Dark Goddess. Once settled I pulled out my not book and got to work.
I started with agrimony witch to my surprise is a plant, when placed under a pillow and slept on it can aid in sleep. It also is used to cleanse negative energy and emotions. Now the only question I have is where I can find it. I read a little bit further and found that the herb can be found growing in fields in England. It’s slender with spikes and yellow flowers and can only be found blooming from June to September. Okay now that I know where to find it how am I supposed to get it. Frustrated I moved on to moonstones. Looking over the book I found that there is more than one type of moon stone and they each do something different. I kept reading to find out that what I needed is an amethyst moon stone. An amethyst moonstone will help dispel fear, heighten intuitive powers, aid in dreaming, dispel nightmares and give protection. Now I just have to find one. Since I figured out what I needed and now just have to figure out how to get it; I decided to open the one book I found on the Dark Goddess.
“The Dark Goddess is the bringer of death and destruction. She is mysterious, dangerous, violent and ill tempered. She represents the three days with no moon. She promotes lust, pride, envy, gluttony, anger, greed and sloth in people around her.” I stared at the small book. “That’s all we know about her!?” how am I supposed to find out more about this goddess if no one knows anything about her. Tired of the library I cleaned up my mess and headed down to the magick class room, if I’m going to find what I need it will be there. The class room was empty when I walked in. I went over to the windows to look over the plants that where sitting on the counter. “Oh jeez.” I muttered to myself. There were a bunch of plants here but none of them said agrimony. I looked around the classroom some more and found a box full of stones. But now I’ve run into another problem. I have no idea what the stone looks like. Boy do I have some rotten luck. Pulling out my phone I dialed Cara’s number.
“Hey Lily how’s it going?”
“Hey Cara, can you do me a favor and run to the library and get a book on stones and bring it back to the magick classroom?”
“Sure, can I ask why?”
“I need to know what an amethyst moonstone looks like.”
“Oh. Well you don’t need a book for that. I know all about moon stones and I’ll be at the classroom in three, two, and one.” Click. Cara hung up the phone as she walked into the room. She walked over to me and started going through the box of stones.
“Now can you tell me why I’m looking for a moonstone?” I nodded and explained what mine and Meli’s plan.
“You know dream walking can be really dangerous right?”
“Yes, which is why we're taking all these percussion’s.”
“When do you plan on doing this?”
“As soon as I find some agrimony.”
“Agrimony?”
“Yeah it’s a plant that’s thin with pickers and yellow flowers.” I showed her what I found in my notebook.
“I know that plant. Or at least I’ve seen it before.”
“Do you think you could find it now?”
“Yeah no problem.”
“Then will do the spell tonight.” I called Meli and told her to be ready for tonight and that will meet her for dinner. I collected a few other things that I needed from the magick classroom before I followed Cara out to the school grounds. We walked out to the flower fields on the south side of the castle. As we walked the flowers and grass grew taller. Some of it even brushing my hips as I walked. We walked to the back of the castle and found the bright yellow flowers we were looking for. I bent down to pull it out by the roots but Cara stopped me.
“Wait that will kill it. Don’t we just need the blooms?” I nodded and picked five of the blooms and a few of the leaves just to be sure. I pocketed the blooms and we headed in for dinner. Meli was holding a table for us when we walked in. Cara and I sat down with her and ordered our food. I waited for the waitress to leave before I lowered my voice and asked,
“Do either of you know about the Dark Goddess?” Meli and Cara looked and me and shook their heads.
“No I don’t think so. Why?” Meli asked an interested look on her face.
“Well when Mr. T brought it up in class today it gave me a funky feeling that I just can’t shake. I looked her up in the library and didn’t find much.”
“I wonder if you could find anything in the scrolls.” Cara commented.
“What Scrolls?”
“The ones kept in the Priestess office.” she said it like it was no big deal. I barked a laugh and dropped my head into my hands.
“How are we going to read them if there in her office?”
“We could sneak in at night.” Gavin whispered in my ear making my head jerk back and jump out of my seat. I punched Gavin in the arm for scaring me.
“Don’t do that it scared me.” Gavin just smiled at me before he and Hayden pulled out chairs and took a seat at the table.
“So what are we talking about girls?” Hayden asked with a smirk on his face.
“Trying to figure out how to get into the Priestess office.” Meli answered an amused tone in her voice.
“Well than I say we do what I first suggested and sneak in at night.” Gavin said with a smile.
“Fine then that’s what will do and Gavin because you came up with the idea you can come up with the plan on how to do it. Will do it after lights out tomorrow night.” I smiled at Gavin and dug into my food. When we finished eating the girls and I headed up to mine and Meli’s room.
