“No! I’m not negotiating anymore, sign the damn papers and get out of my life.” I can’t stand her. I thought to myself as I walked around Keven’s kitchen. “No, we’re not talking in person. No, I’m not telling you where I am.” Danelle could hear every word he was saying and wondered who he was talking to and who could make him that angry. “ I want nothing more than to be done with this. That’s a lie. The hospital has no idea where I am. No, Margret, I’m not talking to you without a lawyer.” With that, I hung up the phone and started to call Andrew.
“Andrew I just got a call from Margret and she says she wants to talk this out…No, I told you I’m done. Tell her if she doesn’t settle by Friday then I’m retracting my offer and she will get nothing.” I stopped pacing the kitchen and looked at the back door to see Danelle standing there watching me. “Settle it, Andrew. I’ve got to go.” I hung up the phone and looked at Danelle. “How long have you been standing there?” she shrugged.
“Awhile. Who were you yelling at?” I put my cell in my pocket and dropped my shoulders.
“My soon to be ex-wife.” Danelle let out a long breath. That’s what she thought. She knew something was wrong. She just knew it.
“you’re married.” She said it in a calm voice. Too calm, I could tell she was pissed. I took a step towards her and she took a step back.
“Danelle were getting divorced. Since the day I met you I’ve been pushing her to sign the papers.” Danelle shook her head.
“It doesn’t matter. You could be signing the papers tonight and it wouldn’t matter. We’ve been together for weeks and you didn’t tell me.” with that Danelle walked out the back door. I watched as she walked over to Cassidy and whispered something to her. Then they both walked over to Keven, he put his hands on Danelle’s shoulders and nodded while talking to her. She gave him a hug and waved to her friends before leaving the house. Keven looked over at me, I could see the anger in his eyes. I had hurt Danelle, I know that. Now I just have to find a way to fix it.
A couple more hours passed before everyone left and Keven could talk to me. He found me nursing a beer by the fire.
“You’re a dumbass,” Keven said as he took a seat next to me. “Do you know how angry she is? Not at the fact that you’re married and getting divorced but at the fact that you didn’t tell her. She doesn’t do well with lies or people who keep things from her. So what are you going to do?”
“I have no idea,” I said shaking my head trying to clear it.
“I’m going to tell you what you’re going to do.” Keven stood and started towards the house. I followed him in. He told me everything I needed to do. He even wrote it out for me. “This is the only way you’ll get her back. So don’t screw it up. This is the last time I want to fix this.”
