At lunch, Paul was teasing me ‘cause I was getting in trouble with Mrs. Lewis but I didn’t say anything back. I used to make up something to tease him back but not this time. I looked at him. It seemed like he has noticed something.
“Do you like Kristy?” Paul suddenly asked. I shook my head, since I’ve never like anyone before so I don’t even know if I like Kristy or not.
The time went by quickly, the dismissal bell rang, I was about to leave but Mrs. Lewis held me back at my collar,
“Where do you think you going, Mr. Kim?” she said
“I totally forgot about the after school detention..” I thought with a sigh. Mrs. Lewis walked me to her classroom where it was only Kristy and me. She assigned us some work then she left. Kristy focused on her work while I was staring at her and pretended to play with my “professional” paper fold characters that I’ve made earlier. I tried to start a conversation with Kristy but it looked like she was too focused on her work. Thirty minutes later, it seemed like she had finished. I assumed that she was bored but she didn’t want to get in trouble with Mrs. Lewis again.
“Sorry” I said. Kristy looked up. She looked into my eyes made me felt guilty. She stared at me without saying a word for a while.
“Wou…” Kristy was about to say something but right at that moment, Mrs. Lewis opened the door so hard that made it slammed into the wall.
“You’ve been working hard Mr. Kim and Ms. Estefina,” she smiled, “You may go home now”. We went home. I was trying to think about what Kristy was about to say. The next morning, Paul and I were walking in the same route to school. Paul was talking about something. My mind was miles away. I’ve never been this quiet before. Paul suddenly stopped me.
“Did you forget your brain at home?” he asked, “Do you want to go back and get it?” My mind had returned, at the same time, I noticed that I’ve turn Paul’s savage mode on.
“Let’s race to school!” I ignored his questions. We ran as fast as we could and arrived at school. Paul had gone to his Taekwondo club practice. I walked up to my locker. At that time I saw Kristy in the corner of my eyes.
“Hey Kristy,” I shouted across the hall then ran to her, “What were you trying to say yesterday?”
“Eh…um…I can’t say it!” Kristy flushed and ran away. The day went by fast, I was staring at Kristy along with a question that stuck in my head “What did she try to say?”
