28 days, 10 hours, 34 minutes left
With a flick of her hair, Lex started to lead the group away from the warehouse. Liam and I stayed glued together by our hands and walked in the middle of everyone. Without speaking, they all formed a barrier around us. We were steadily moving into more residential area instead of industrial. By the looks of it, we weren’t going to a place too far from my house.
“It’s only a couple blocks west, Lex.” Mattie called up to Lex from behind us.
“I know, Mattie.” Lex grumbled.
I clenched Liam’s hand tighter in mine, my only way of grounding myself in such an unreal situation. Liam smiled gently at me and the two in front of us stopped moving. We were stopped at a shabby looking two-story house. Lex was currently on the porch unlocking the door, she pulled it open and slipped inside.
“Let her check things out first.” Mattie said to Liam and I, now beside us after moving closer.
Before I could say anything else, Lex was back at the front door waving us all in. Liam and I diligently followed everyone inside and into an open living room. The bright red couch situated in the back of the room was the only furniture in sight.
“Home sweet home, guys.” A younger looking boy said wistfully, this being a much better upgrade to the cages.
“I think there’s some food in the kitchen still. I’ll make something up and you guys can talk to those two.” The oldest looking woman of the group said and made her way into presumably the kitchen.
“Take a seat.” Lex said, leaning against the wall, surveying us.
Three people immediately made for the couch, and another two said down against the wall near the couch. Mattie stood across the room from Lex, and Liam and I stayed where we were, near the door.
“How do you know us?” I asked, “And why exactly should we have been in the cages with you?”
“Wow, I’m shocked you didn’t want introductions first.” Lex teased, smirking at me.
“There are more important things, aren’t there?” I replied.
“I think introductions are better first. That way you know who to direct your feelings at.” Mattie said, “I’m Matthew, Mattie to Lex.”
“I’m Jenna.” A girl with purple looking hair said from her spot on the couch, “This is my sister, Beth.” She added, pointing at the strawberry blonde frizzy haired girl beside her.
“I’m Adam.” A brunette boy said.
“Jordan.” A surly looking boy grumbled.
“Maggie is the one who went into the kitchen, and I’m Danny.” The youngest looking boy of the group chirped.
“As you’ve probably picked up, I’m Lex.” Lex smiled grimly at us, or more at me. I got the feeling like I’d done something to upset her.
“Nice to meet you all, now do you mind explaining how you know us?” I asked.
“You really don’t know?” She asked, sounding hurt and curious.
“Should I?” I said.
“Guess not.” She bit out and continued “Anyways, you guys have picked up on your abilities, right? Good, so Lottie, you know that-”
A harsh knocking on the door cut off Lex and made me jump away from the door. Lex rushed in front of Liam and I and cautiously crept closer to the door. She stood up on her tiptoes, her small height hindering her, and dropped her tense shoulders.
“Oh thank god.” She breathed and unlocked the door, pulling it open.
