Dane rolled his eyes about ANDI’s little comments and followed Reggie closely, quite nervous about the area and all the apparent dangers.
“You get a feel for what’s legit and what’s obviously a setup or a dangerous area or something-- if you’re smart. But the general rules is stick the places and paths you know and make yourself unseen if you really want to be safe. But I don’t always like to be safe..” Reggie grinned to himself, his thick-soled boots echoing on the cracked pavement as they shifted through the colorful crowd.
“People love body modifications here,” Dane mused under his breath. Reggie heard him anyway.
“It’s the Mad Max effect or something. Society falls apart so people reject the morals of society.. Well, most of them. Everyone just wants to look unique or maybe unapproachable. There’s always something to be said about appearances.” He shrugged, “If you’re confident enough, you can probably fool most people into thinkin’ you’re important.”
Dane got the feeling that Reggie held a lot of political and social opinions he was just waiting to burst out with at any time. It made sense, being a young half-alien in a broken down society.
“Let’s buy you some shit,” said halfling concluded, taking a sharp right into a store. It was dark in there, the walls a royal purple while the unamused green-haired woman at the register looked at her inventory. It was clothes.
“I’d rather stuff for my room--”
“Dane you have one outfit, c’mon. I love clothes. Designs, self-expression. What’s like.. your whole deal?” Reggie asked, digging through racks.
“Huh?” Dane peered at a row of varying styles of boots. For all the individualism, a lot of people dressed the same.
“Your style. Your aesthetic, your.. alignment. What does Dane stand for?” Reggie pulled things off the shelf, sizing up Dane.
“I like… the things you mentioned, I guess. Freedom and individuality and.. uh, I guess I always dressed really casually--”
“Effortlessly cool, I got it. We’re gonna look at some muted, loose sweaters and ah, much better pants..”
Dane sighed as he was forced into a dressing room, seeing himself in a mirror for the first time in a few days. His undercut was growing in too much and he looked so tired. He frowned at himself-- and then he realized how damn short he was compared to Reggie.
