We sat in silence in my dorm room; Derik had been waiting for us at the foot of the hill. Richard and Cairi seemed to be on bad terms, after she kicked him she had stormed off with none knowing where she went.
“So; a bar fight?” Derik snickered. After much coaxing we had finally gotten Richard slowly spilling what had happened between the mystery girl and him.
“I knew you lot would laugh! I mean come on who wouldn’t? Beaten to pulp by a little girl.”
“And what? Because you stepped on a flower… Seriously?”
“A flower she was photographing.” Richard mumbled. I could not hide the grin that was plastered to my face.
“You honestly expect us to believe you?” I chimed; there just was no why that girl could… Though thinking back to when she threaten to kill us should we tell on her to her brother… She seemed legit, so perhaps…
“You just looked like you had an epiphany.” Derik queried.
“She threatened us too.” Marshall shrugged.
“But even still there’s just no way that girl could have beaten you black-and-blue as she did!”
“Would it help you if I told you she had a Taser and a baton, she just stood up and glared at me, before she tased…” A knock sounded on the door.
“Jason, I thought you were staying over at your grandfather’s house again.” I was surprised, Jason’s my roommate, but he rarely ever stayed at the dorms. Instead he stayed at the ‘other’ house his family owned and was abandoned after Mr. Shaw was practically forced into the old age home.
“Cairi’s at the police station, I’m just here to get her ID.”
“Her ID?” I questioned. She had showed us her ‘ID’ back at the mansion, and even if she didn’t why would her brother have it…
“How old’s your sister anyway?” Marshall asked no curious, the lightbulb that is ‘truth’ already flickering on.
“She’s seventeen.” He grabbed a binder and flipped through the multitude of sleeves until one that had ‘her’ ID in.
“And what did she happen to do that got her at the Police Station?” Richard asked a smirking.
“She ‘jaywalking. Ran across the street, almost got hit by a car; headlight broken. Both she and the driver is at the station.” He said nonchalant, as if used to this sort of ‘trouble’.
As soon as Jason was out the door, Marshall could no longer hold his laughter.
“I can’t believe I was fooled so easily! I honesty couldn’t tell if she was lying or not! And her ID was definitely real…”
“Forged!” They Richard prevented Marshall from trying to justify his ‘mistake’.
We somehow ended up drinking that night away; thankfully it was the weekend. It would only be later that week we would realize that the girl, Cairi, was in the same year as we…
And we all found it out in the one class we all shared…
“… Also a new student will be joining classes starting today.” The English Lit. Professor’s voices reached my ears. I had no interest to listen to his endless ramblings about ‘Romeo and Juliet.’
But as soon as I saw her step into class I felt like my world was about to be destroyed!
“Cairi, mind introducing yourself? It’s not every day we have a prodigy enter our little collage.”
“Day! I’m Cairi Halbrook, as some might have guessed by name alone, I’m Jason Halbrook’s younger sister. Also the daughter of the late actress Sandra Halbrook and the Opera singer Jackson Halbrook. Granddaughter of Shaw Halbrook. My major is Drama, Minors in Literature and Classical Music. I’m turning eighteen mid-winter; and my hobbies include photography and… photography!” She ‘giggled’ at her childish suspense that she thought she’d created. She went on to bow, again that same ‘ballet’ bow; her eyes sweeping the lecture room and falling on me, she slowly followed my gaze towards Marshall and then sneered when she noticed Richard right next to Marshall...
