<Today we are celebrating the creation of the Ar clones! It was exactly 2 years ago when Doctor Harper and his science team announced to the world that the first clone 24.1 has survived.>
“Can you turn off the radio?”
The taxi driver ignores Lola and turns the volume up. Lola rolls her eyes and leans back into her seat. She wouldn’t have taken the taxi if her scooter somehow didn’t refuse to start. Today is not a good day. She has that feeling.
<Soon we will have thousands of them living between us. Well, they are not hard to miss if they all look the same and have the inscription of their age and number on their foreheads. But they are doing a great job in the police force and military. So the people have made this day, The Harper Day, to celebrate them. And we actually have Doctor Harper here in the studio with us to answer some of our questions. Hello, doctor!>
<Hello, hell—>
“Stop here,” Lola shouts to the driver. She can’t listen anymore. She shoves him some money and storms out of the car. There should be clones in taxies too. They are nice, silent and don’t disobey humans.
Lola enters the tall glass-building, situated at the corner of a busy street. On the outside, people know it to be the biggest law firm in the city. On the inside is Lola’s secret spy Agency.
She approaches the secretary’s desk.
“Look what the cat dragged in,” Kerry spits in her direction, “An actual rat!”
Lola isn’t happy to see her plastic face either. But she grins and says, “I love what you’ve done with your hair, Kerry! It’s a beautiful mustache.”
The secretary covers her mouth in panic and glares at Lola who enters the office with a smirk, only to stop in her tracks.
A kid stands in front of the desk.
“12.1?” she reads from his forehead. Her heart sinks.
“Hello, Lola,” the Boss says and she startles. The thin man, who always wears a black suit and his hair gelled in the wrong shape, also stands near the windows. He looks through them. Lola knows what happens when he does this- he is deeply thinking about something. And it doesn’t mean is something good for her. “The boy is a clone. He is a Su.”
“B-but… h-how...”
“He is Doctor Gallimore’s first subject,” Boss interrupts her mumble. “The reason why all the other Ar clones are created.”
Lola knows who he is. But what does he do here?
“We kept him alive.” The man turns around to look at Lola’s confused expression. If that can be called confusion on her face. More like that she smelled something bad. “I’m giving you the mission to train this… kid… for us.”
Su stares at her with big green eyes. He has never seen a woman before, in all the 3 years he has been hidden in the labs. Only one. But that woman was an elegant woman. This one? The shabby look is something new to Su. Messy hair and wrinkled shirt with a weird image on it; he only knows scary white clothes.
Lola refuses to look at him. Instead, she stares down at her boss. She doesn’t know if this is a joke or a cruel prank. Kerry will open the door any moment with her ugly mug and throw some confetti, right?
Why else did she receive this mission if they all know that Lola is the one who killed the doctor who created the boy?
