Sometimes passes until both women have calmed down. They get up, wiping their tears and cleaning themselves from the dirt before they go to their new companions.
“ Hello. My name is Anna.” she says with a bright smile. Her long blond hair had blood stains on them. In some parts, they were minor burns, but she didn't seem like she had any major injuries.
“ Hello. I am Andrew.” he says returning the smile.
“ Ivan” he says with only a small nod.
Alex tries to get himself up but fails miserably. Creating some minor laughs from everybody.
“ And I am Alex.” he says, clearly embarrassed by his failure.
“ Look, I know you want some information, but I think it should be better if we returned to the camp for now. We all need some rest.” Mira suggests.
“ Couldn't agree more.” Andrew answers, still laying on the floor, completely exhausted.
“ I suppose we could.” Ivan adds with a frown.
“ How far is this camp?” Alex asks?
“ Around half an hour.” Mira says like it is nothing.
“ And we are staying here.” Andrew quickly replies.
“ We must go. The empire only knows the whereabouts of our camp. If we want their help, we must go there, where the transmission device is.” Anna answers him.
“ I didn't understand a single word.”
“ If we want help to come, we must go to the camp.” Anna says again, making it clearer this time.
" Fine!" Andrew says, giving up." But can we at least rest for a couple of minutes."
Everyone else nods in agreement.
“ So... where are we?” Alex finally asks the question everyone was waiting for.
“ This is Fena. We are at the Red Empire's lands, at the Jackal regions.”
“ Ohh, ok, thanks a lot. Now I understand.”
“ Don't be sarcastic. I haven't finished.” Mira says with a frown.” You see, I summoned you here, using a random summoning spell.”
“ Random summoning spell?” Andrew questions her from the ground.
" Yes. It uses almost no magic so in that situation was ideal. But I can't control whatever comes out of there. It is both dangerous and a huge gambit. You can summon something dangerous that will eat you, like a leviathan. Or you can summon something useless, like a chicken. But we are getting off point here. I ended up summoning you and I am very sorry that I dragged you into this." she apologises with a bow. " But you saw the situation I was in. I had no choice."
“ It is fine, happy we could help. So then... how do we go back? Is there another kind of spell or what?” Andrew asks.
" Well... you see... I can't exactly send you back." she says.
A huge uproar was heard by the three guys.
“ What do you mean you can't send us back?!”
“ Exactly what it sounds like. I am really sorry but, that summoning spell doesn't come with a return option.”
“ You must be kidding me! So that means we are stuck in this world forever?” Alex asks.
" I am really sorry."
“ Fine by me, I don't mind.”
“ I, however, unlike the casanova over there, mind.” Ivan says angrily while standing up and looking down at Mira.
“ Don't be so short minded. This can be a good thing.” Andrew tries to calm him down.
“ And how is that?”
" Come on. Do you know many people that had the chance to go to another world, with monsters magic and all that? I mean come on, you have powers also. What more do you want? Don't you want to live an adventure?"
Ivan looks on the ground. He must admit that Andrew has a point, it does sound intriguing.
" See. You know I am right. It might haven't been your decision, and since we can't do anything about it, let's enjoy it."
" Ok. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try it out and see how it turns out." Ivan admits.
“ So... no hard feelings?” Mira asks them.
“ No. We are fine. We know that you were desperate. But... under one condition. You are going to be taking care of us since we aren't used to all of this.”
“ That's what I was planning to do. You guys are my summons, after all, it is my job to take care of you. But I have a condition as well. You are going to be listening to me and coming with me on missions and other stuff like that.”
“ Alright.” he says as they shake hands.
“ Hey! Don't decide for everyone.” Ivan shouts at Andrew.
“ By the way, we haven't properly introduced ourselves. My name is Andrew Blake . And I am 24.”
“ Ivan Sherbevich, 23.”
“ I am Alex Heinrich, 22.”
“ My name is Anna Jael. A 21-year-old knight. Servant of the Gracial household.”
“ And I am Mira Gracial, I am 20 and the rightful heir to the Gracial household.”
“ The heir? Then that must mean that you are noble?”
" Yes. But actually, my brother is in charge now. Even though I am the rightful heir, I was pushed aside."
“ Ohh. Sorry to hear that.”
" Don't mind it too much. I am going to prove myself and take what's naturally mine." she says with determination.
" I have a question a well." Ivan gets their attention. " If we are from a different world, how do we understand you?"
" It is one of the tropes of the summoning spell. Along with the summon another spell is activated that translates the words that you hear in your natural language, whichever it might be. And when you speak it also translates it to our language so everyone else can understand you."
“ But how does it know our language?”
“ That I don't know. Spells like that were created by superior beings, and we can't understand their methods. We just adjusted it to the summoning spell. The spell will run out eventually, but don't worry. Until then our language will have been implanted into your brains automatically.”
“ And what about this world's other languages? If you say that this was given to you, should it has every language?”
“ No. Our world, unlike yours, doesn't have many languages, but only one.” Anna is the one who answers this time.
“ Only one? But how is this possible?”
“ Language wasn't created by someone. It existed, to begin with. We only learned it. The same goes for the monsters.”
Ivan nods.
“ Now that you mention it, what's the deal with those monsters? I mean the first ones that we saw were beasts. But the last two, that man and that woman? They looked too much like humans.” Andrew asks her, he seemed upset for some reason.
“ The first ones you saw were fire-goblins. They are beasts that can't even talk. They live in groups, attacking, killing, eating humans. They are more like animals than people. But the other two were from monster regions.”
“ Monster regions?”
“ That's a big story, better save it for later when we will have rested.” Mira interrupts them.
“ You are right. We will tell you later about it. Now! Get up. We rested enough. We must go back to the camp.”
Andrew makes a long sigh. But gets up. Everyone follows the two girls into the forest.
In about thirty or so minutes they had reached the camp. Unlike the night before that it was full of life and laughter, now it looked abandoned. When they arrived Mira showed them one of the tents where they could sleep in. She left quickly, saying that she needed to call for backup as soon as possible. Leaving Anna with them.
They could see that she was feeling uneasy and she didn't want to be in that place. Andrew thought that he even saw a tear in her eyes. But not wanting to disturb her even further he didn't ask her what was wrong. Anna was also behaving a little strange, but not as much as Mira.
But then he remembers the thinks that Mira had said during their battle with Greyo.
[ That thing is responsible for the death of my entire squad. Fifty people died because of him. I am never going to forgive him. I am going to avenge them.]. And if this was their camp, then it must very difficult for them.
He gives a look at Ivan, he nods. They must have been thinking the same thing. Alex, however, couldn't read the mood so he speaks.
" Hey, Anna. What's the matter with this place? Wasn't this supposed to be your camp? Where are all the people?"
Both Andrew and Ivan facepalm.
' This idiot' they both think.
Anna gives him a saddened look, she then looks around at the tent.
“ They are all dead.” she says coldly.
“ Ohh. I... I am so sorry. I am such an idiot.” he quickly apologises.
“ No need to apologise.” Mira says as she walks in the tent. “ I send a message to the Empire. They said they will be here tomorrow morning, with a carriage to pick us up and help the injured.” she says as she sits down along with them.
" People die all the time in this world. This is no exception. In order to become a soldier, no, to even live in this world, you have to accept the idea of death." she says coldly.
Anna looks on the floor, clearly sad.
“ That, however, doesn't mean that we don't care about each other. That we don't become friends, that we create bonds with other people. But that we know that they will probably won't last long. This is the fate of this world.”
“ I don't understand Mira. Why has your world become like that?” Alex asks.
“ It has to do with those monsters you told us earlier, right?” Ivan says.
She nods.
“ I think it is time you told us about them.” Andrew is the one to speak this time.
“ Yes. We have time to waste, so I suppose I should inform you about this world a little more.” Anna offers them some water, that they gladly accepted.
