After cursing her family out for a few minutes, Claire got to work unpacking her stuff and picking which bed she wanted. She was just putting the last of her clothing away when she heard the sound of the front door opening and then the sound of Arnold's grandmother's voice. Claire exited the bedroom and hurried downstairs, just as she got to the final step Arnold's grandmother was asking them who they were.
"Are you Arnold's friend?"
Claire walked up Leda and called out "Ms.Leda. What are you doing answering the door?" Leda jumped and turned before giving a very confused look towards Claire. Claire eased her hands onto Leda's shoulders and eased her from the door. "Remember, You have people coming over. To help you with the garden. I'm one of them remember. You already warned me about the garden." She reminded causing Leda eyebrows to frown once again before her eyes lit up. "Yes. Then, since you've been told. I leave you to warn away the others." She said in a quite informative manner. Claire could only nod and wave goodbye as Miss. Leda walked away. Claire let out a breath and turned towards the door to see another young woman standing on the other side.
The woman standing before Claire could only be described as having a sinful beauty. She was tall standing at least 5'8 with long glossy blonde hair and beautiful ice blue eyes that were fringed with thick long lashes. Her face was flawless except for a single scar at the edge of her right brow. Her nose was strong and straight while her lips were full and painted a deep red that seemed to be more definite thanks to her light tan.She wore a dark red leather biker jacket and black pants that seem emphasis the lushness of her body. She was in all terms strikingly beautiful.
"Hi, I'm Anna. You must be Arnold?!"
"No! God No. I'm Claire. I'm going to be working the property for my community service. It's nice to me you."
Claire reached out her hand and couldn't help but notice how beautiful even her hands were.
"Nice to me you too. It's nice to meet someone I'm working with."
"Oh Shit, You're on the service. What the hell did you do?" Claire quickly covered her mouth not meaning to say those words out loud. Anna laughed before nodding. " Yep, And to answer your question I punched a guy in the face breaking his nose. Yeah, Turns out the guy was a lawyer." Claire cringed and bit her lip.
" Sounds like mine. I punched my Dean in the face." Anna barked out a laugh and Claire couldn't help but try to explain. " I didn't mean to, I was trying to hit my sister but he got in the way." Anna's eyes widen as she continued to laugh. " Didn't make it sound any better, Claire." Claire groaned and covered her in embarrassment. Anna cleared her throat as she finally began to stop laughing.
"Well, It's very nice to meet you. Claire."
"Um..Arnold gave me my room already and it seems I have to share it with someone. Want to be my new roomie?"
"Why Claire inviting me to bed already. We only just meet? Though I would be very honored."
"Oh God." Claire hissed as she blushed. Anna rolled her lips before clearing her throat. "So, Where's the bedroom. I would love to see the bedroom that we are going to share." Claire looked away before pointing her head towards the stairs. Anna whistled as they entered the room. "Very Vintage." She set her backpack on the bed. "So, Do you know what we are doing here?"
"No, not really. I just got her literally a hour before you. I met the caretaker's son I guess, Arnold but I don't know what were doing." Claire explained as she fumbled with her fingers. Anna sat down on the bed causing it to give a light creak.
" So, What did that sister of your do to get a punch in the face?" She asked. Claire swallowed and bit her lip. " Called me a Good for nothing daughter of a crazy dumb Crack whore." Anna tensed at how fluent the words came from my mouth. Claire could tell how shocked Anna was at the words.
" My step-sister has this thing were she thinks that she is the queen of the world and that anything that threatens her should be put down. I guess I threaten her and so she likes to bring up the fact that my mom is sick." Claire explained. She felt embarrassed but relieved explaining this to someone. Her father didn't really listen to her and she didn't really have any friends back home. She had been close to her mother but after her visit in October, her mother had disappeared.
She remembered the day clearly. She had used some of her work money to buy groceries and clothes as she knew her mother was using any money from her job to fund her addiction. She had unlocked the door to find her mother sitting in the living room staring at the blank TV. She had cut her black hair at some point and had lost a great deal of weight. Her eyes had completely lost they're shine signaling to me that she was in the high. I swallowed before closing the door. Claire did her normal routine of cleaning the apartment top to bottom, doing laundry, and making her mother food. It was when she was putting away the leftovers that she began to mumble words.
"O kípos tou marmárou. Ta spítia tis týchis. I énarxi tis profiteías pou tha teleiósei tin katástasí tou. Archízei me kardiés kai teleiónei me tin psychí. Desmevméni gia tin Aioniótita perissótero."
How she said them was what made Claire's skin crawl. Her tone was heavy and almost bitter. Like she hated saying every word. Claire had walked to her mother and shook her shoulder trying to get her out of it but it didn't work. In the end, Claire had to leave. When she had returned the next day her mother was gone.
"Shit. I'm sorry about that." Anna apologized. Her eyes softened and Claire couldn't help but feel like they were going to turn out as friends after this whole thing.
Claire didn't know how right she was.
