Now knowing for certain the identity of our visitor, I breathed a mental sigh of relief and waited patiently for him to come over. I laid still and tracked his progress with the beast's sensitive hearing. I had wrapped his hoofs with leather earlier that evening to help cover up our hurried approach to the forest edge via the nearby road that ran past it. He hadn't liked the leather being on his feet but he had sensed something was up and after a bit of bribery, he left the ties holding the leather on alone. It sounded like the leather was still on them but I couldn't really tell due to how sensitive the beast's hearing was. Either way, I heard him circle around far to the side before coming over to stick his big horsey nose in our face.
He sniffed us cautiously, nervous and probably wondering why his master's voice had come from something that didn't look or smell like her. His nervousness turned his normally silver-grey coat dark and the insides of his soft, velvety nostrils were starting to glow a dull red-orange. With every breath, he exhaled whips on smoke on us and I caught whiffs of soot and ash from it.
"Hey, Silver," I cooed to him in a low soft tone. "I need your help with something."
His ears flicked forward and he stopped sniffing us at the sound of my voice coming from our current form. Knowing I had his full attention now, I smiled gently at him and reached up and stroked his nose with the back of our fingers.
"I need your help to pull me over onto my belly. Think you could do that for me?" I asked him.
He raised his head and his ears moved back and forth as he thought about what I had said. He gave me an uncertain look before bobbing his head in agreement.
"Good boy!" I told him. Then a thought occurred to me.
"After you pull me over, I'll be throwing up a person. It would be a great help to me if you could drag me backwards as he comes out. Think you could do that for me too?" I asked.
He gave me another uncertain look as he lowered his head and stared down at me.
"It's okay to bite me if you need too. Just be careful of the claws, okay? I don't want you to get hurt helping me but I do need you to do this for me, please."
