Edith went to Ashley’s house after school the next day to prepare for the dance. She picked up a few dresses, two pairs of shoes, and some jewelry from her apartment first.
Ashley already had her own outfit picked out and was now excited to help Edith with her’s. Edith brought three dresses to try, and wanted Ashley’s opinion on them.
Edith walked into a bathroom to try on the first dress. It was a black knee-length dress that was a bit sparkly. It didn’t have sleeves. When she had it on, she looked at herself in the mirror. She sort of liked it. It looked nice, but not exactly the best on her. She stepped out of the bathroom, and Ashley looked at the dress.
“I like it. Definitely a possibility,” Ashley said.
Edith went back into the bathroom to try on the next one. It was purple, long-sleeved, and a bit longer than knee-length. It was simple and without much decorations. She looked at how the dress looked on her in the mirror. She thought it looked good on her. It was simple, but nice.
“You like it? I think it looks nice,” Edith said to her friend as she walked out of the bathroom.
“It does look good on you. But I want to see the third one,” Ashley told her.
Edith walked back into the bathroom for the third time. The last dress was light pink. It had short sleeves and a flared skirt. It was a bit shimmery, and had some lace patterns. It was pretty. She put it on. It complimented her blonde hair nicely. It looked good on her body. It was a pretty dress. It made her look pretty.
She stepped out of the bathroom.
“No, that’s the one. You gotta wear that one.” Ashley admired the dress happily. “The necklace you brought would look good with that, and the white shoes.”
“Should I do somethin’ with my hair?” Edith asked.
“Nah, you should just leave it down. We have to leave in a minute anyways.”
After Edith put on the necklace, Edith and Ashley went downstairs to the front door of Ashley’s house, and Edith slipped on the white shoes that she brought.
“You ready?” Ashley asked.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.” Edith replied as Ashley opened the door.
“I forgot to ask, did anyone ask you to the dance?” Edith asked her friend as they walked towards the highschool.
“Yeah, actually. His name is Dave. I don’t know him well, but I think I like him,” Ashley replied.
As they got closer to the highschool, Edith saw Troy. He was wearing a collared white shirt and dress pants. Edith thought he looked nice.
“You look nice,” Troy said as Edith got to the front door of the highschool.
“Thanks. You look nice too,” Edith said back to him.
Before Edith knew it, the first slow song came on, and she was dancing with Troy. He was a good dancer. They looked into each other's eyes, smiling shyly. It was almost awkward, but they also had a friendship and an understanding with each other.
During the fun songs, Edith, Troy, Ashley and Dave danced and talked, and during the slow songs, Edith and Troy danced together while Ashley and Dave did the same. They seemed happy. This cycle continued until at some point Edith realized it was over.
She also realized that she really liked Troy. He really liked her too. We’re they officially together? Edith thought so, and she thought that Troy thought so to.

The dance was pretty fun. It was ok. But I’m not sure if I like Troy. I liked him because he was so kind and sweet. And he is, but I get the feeling that if I had a different personality, or if I straight out hated him, he would still like me. Is that a good thing? I’m probably just being weird. Maybe I do like him.
Before the dance, when I was trying on dresses, I looked in the mirror. It startled me for some reason. It startled me that my hair was blonde. I guess I expected it to be dark.
Like my parents.
