The chain around his ankle felt heavier than before as he shuffled out of the steamy bathroom and into his bedroom dressed in old dull clothes. His mother was standing a few inches away from the door and right by her side was Father. The two appeared to be the same as this morning.
“Yes?” he gulped.
He feared that he had done something wrong to make them angry within the couple of hours he had just seen them. Or was it minutes? He didn’t know. Time had no place in his world.
His mother cleared her throat, "Iesa. I know you may seem surprised to see us but this is because we had forgotten what day it was today. Today is the day of the Solis Ball.”
“Solis Ball?” He questioned, “What is that?”
“The Solis Ball is an event that happens every year during the full moon. Celestials will gather during the night to celebrate that we are the chosen ones of the Great Sun.” she explained, “We honor the Great Sun by gathering in the eyes of The Modest Moon to show that we are not fearful for what it can do. It has been ten years since we joined in on this celebration.”
“Ten years…?” he awed.
He wanted to ask why it has been such a long time since they joined in with the other Celestials.
“That is correct. Father and I have talked about it and we have decided to join this year. This means that we will not be able to greet you tomorrow morning.” she continued.
“Is...that what you wanted to tell me...?” He inquired.
“Of course. We wouldn’t come back to visit you if it wasn’t necessary Raquel." she scoffed.
“Oh...” he nodded his head, “Then may I receive a book about the Solis Ball? I want to learn more about it.”
Mother cocked her head to the side, “As you wish. You will receive the book within your food box later today.”
She shifted her weight on her left foot, ready to turn around. Iesa stepped forward, “Mother! Father...” He looked at the two of them, “Since you are here...can you tell me if I'm getting better?”
“You are not.” Mother denied, “Doctor Junior has told us that you shall remain indoors at all times.”
“But what if I am alright!?” he pushed, “What if he's wrong!? Maybe we should-“
She took a step forward and slapped him across the face, “That is enough!” Her voice cracked, “How dare you start to question us! Do you realize how much we do for you!? We feed you! We clothe you! We give you books like you wanted! We hired that fancy doctor to come run test on you to find out what is wrong with you! And now you question us?!”
He pressed his hand against his cheek as tears tugged at his eyes. It wasn’t the first time she had laid her hands on him nor was it going to be the last from what he could tell. He wanted to say more but couldn’t. She was right. They're taking care of him and he shouldn’t question their methods of madness.
