Episode 019: Quest Update

Regardless of why Eti and Ing were together near the outskirts of the city, I felt obligated to help Ing despite being super reluctant in wanting to do so. I mean, I was technically a wanted criminal at large to the people of this city and in the middle of escaping.

Give me a break!

[Nori—]

I never said I wasn’t going to go, I thought with a grumble. Let me think.

Ing probably didn’t even need my help but it was best to check it out anyway. I was under the radar at the moment; they would assume I was heading for the borders or too concerned with whatever distraction the little blonde elve created.

“How far?” I asked aloud as I continued to have a mental pity party.

[About 200 meters away. 7 o’clock direction.]

I stopped after asking if there were any guards nearby and the AI replying with a negative. Standing in the woods at night, I considered Eti Lifeflight, who was a magic practitioner, and what I had on hand.

Thirty-Seven, can you enhance my vision?

[Nori can do it now that you are Level 2.]

Oh, right. Body Reinforcement.

Contemplating the bow in my hand. Several beats passed before I restrung the composite bow. I was more used to modern bows or the asymmetrical yumi but at least the elves preferred recurve bows, so it was somewhat familiar to me.

I already realized the stolen bow had a higher draw weight than I was used to, but I underestimated exactly how much stronger elves were than humans once I got an arrow from the Inventory to test the bow.

Good thing I didn’t let any of the guards hit or grab me.

Theoretically, this should work, but rather unsure until actually attempting it, I took a deep breath. I was able to run at twice my full-sprinting speed and I’m not exactly a slow person; it was possible to break human limits.

Focusing, I strengthened my core along with the muscles of my back, arms, and shoulders, only stopping my adjustments until the bow felt like one that I used comfortably all the time. That muscle memory a 45lb draw weight felt like.

I glanced around, finding a branch about 70-meters away, aimed and released.

Lowering my arms, I enhanced my vision enough to see the arrow deeply embedded into the branch.

Turning to the direction Ing and Eti supposedly were, I exhaled. Alright, guide me to them.

[Nonbinary Protagonist. Another World Fantasy.]
Nori wakes up with no clue how they got stuck in a tree and it does not get better from there. Just weirder.
