I walked down to Mushu’s room and knocked on the open door.
“Hey, do you want to do some exploring. The map we were given says there’s a dining room, we could hit it up to get something to eat?”
"Yeah, I’m game.” We walked around finding all of our class rooms and the club rooms. This was the whole reason I was here. Mushu was excited about the technology club; working with computers and such is what Mushu loves. But what I’m excited about is the martial arts, archery and fencing clubs. Because of my work with all three back in China; I was recognized here and asked to come to this top school in the states. The martial arts club here works with all different types of Martial arts. Mixing them together and using them as one. I peeked into the club room, red mats lined the floor, a group of guys where practicing, all of them wearing their white GI. I’m impressed with their kicks, flips and punches. I looked throughout the room trying to see all the students.
We finished searching the school and headed outside before going to lunch. The grounds were extensive. There were outdoor basketball courts, baseball fields, a football field, a track field, an archery field, garden, and even a barn. All of them spread out over acres and acres of land. We headed towards the barn, the smell of horses and hay wafted in the air, it reminded me of home. One of the roaming horses caught my eye. He’s big and black with a long white main and tail. One large white spot covered his left flank, with one on each of his hooves, and one on his forehead. I walked over and patted him on the nose.
“Gosh, you are beautiful,” I whispered to the horse as I petted him.
“Hey, Mu. I’m going to take a walk, it stinks around here. Have fun with your…cow.” I laughed at him
“Shu. It’s a horse.” He made a funny face at me and walked away headed towards the garden.
“If you say so.” All I could do was laugh at him. He’s such a goof. “Don’t listen to him, you’re beautiful.” I stood petting and murmuring to him.
“Wow, I’m surprised. Khan never lets boys near him.” I jumped a little, surprised at the new voice. I looked over and found a guy my age standing a few feet away. He’s tan with long black hair tied in a ponytail. He’s tall and muscular, his dark brown eyes smiled at me.
“I’m sorry, who are you?”
“Oh sorry. I’m Chang.”
“Oh! You’re my roommate.” He grinned at me.
“So you’re Ping?” I nodded and we shook hands. “I hear you’re Interested in some of the same clubs that I’m in.”
“Oh really?”
“Yes, Martial arts, fencing, and archery.”
“Ah yes. I love all those, they’re the reason I was able to come here.”
“That’s really cool. How did it get you here?” I blushed, trying to hide it.
“Ah, I placed first in all three competitions in my school.”
“Oh, where are you from?”
“China.”
“So you grew up in china?” I nodded and kept petting Kahn. “I was born in China but raised in the United States. My father’s in the military and was transferred from here last year, I stayed.”
“You miss them?”
“Well it’s just me and my father, but yeah. I guess.” He laughed roughly and looked over to a big white horse. “I’m going to take Khan for a ride. See you.” I waited until he was on the horse and galloping away before I bolted and ran to find Mushu.
