I didn't know it'd be so hard. My hand trembled as I touched the trigger. I looked at his eyes, his dead, soulless eyes, and I think he was staring into mine. I close my eyes, and squeeze my finger. I was rewarded with a loud bang and a thud.
The test dummy hit the ground, and I could hear the Judges clapping. "He'll make a good soldier yet!" " The best in years!" "He'll save Area 8!" The chorus of compliments and applaud confuses me. As far as I know, none of the Areas have had soldiers, not since the WA formed. The Areas weren't allowed to kill. They weren't allowed to have armies.
In the midst of my confusion, I saw Charlie sitting in the audience. She looks appalled at what I had just done, almost as if I had killed a real person. She catches my eyes, and I notice tears forming. I don't know what I did wrong, everybody else seems so happy. I feel sick to my stomach as I walk out.
As I leave the room, I notice I had hit the target straight between those cold, dead eyes.
