20 days earlier...
"Your a Seeker, Michel." said the guy in front of me. I was eating at my local Waffle House near my apartment complex, when this guy started sitting in the seat across from me. He was dressed in worn out jeans, a gray hoodie, and white shoes turned brown. But what made him stick out, was that he had pure white hair--like snow white.
Needless to say, he looked like a homeless bum.
At first, I just stared at him. This guy must have a few screws lose, as to call me...what was it? Oh, a Seeker--whatever that was.
"I'm sorry...but what?"
"Your a Seeker." he repeated, with a stupid grin on his face.
I took another bite out of my hash brown bowl. Yep, he was serious. Probably some junkie looking to mug a poor, defenseless guy like me. Well, I wasn't going to play those games.
"Check please!" I called out to one of the waitresses.
In no time, I was already out of the Waffle House, and almost down the road, before he caught up with me.
"Wait!" he shouted.
"Look dude, I don't have any money, that meal was all I could afford, so just go beg somewhere else why don't you." I told him.
"Look," he began, "I know we didn't start off on the right foot, so let me start over." Clearing his throat, he made his second attempt at a proper introduction... "My name is Kolt, and your life is in danger."
Yep...this guy is insane.
Feeling that my life was in danger NOW, I immediately ran away, taking a left down Courtland Street. Having to run thru Atlanta traffic isn't fun, but I needed to get away far from that weirdo. I traveled two blocks before I stopped to look back and see if he had decided to follow. It looked like I had lost him, but I couldn't have been more wrong...
"Hey." he greeted me as I turned down the corner.
"How the hell?"
"Yeah, I'm pretty fast. Did track back in high school."
He moved towards me, then put his arm around me, preventing me from running away again.
"So? How about that talk, Michel?" he insisted.
"How do you know me?" I asked him.
"I asked one of the waitresses back at the restaurant. I was like, Hey! Do you know some kid named Michel?", and she was like, "Yeah, I know who he is. He's some kid who eats here once a week, sits in that booth over there.", and then I asked, "Can you tell me what he Looks like.", and she said, "He has black hair, red eyes, and wears some school uniform.", thus is how I came to finding you." he finished, pointing his finger at me.
"Okay, but that doesn't explain why your after me. Did I piss off some gang leader, or what?"
"No, no, no. This isn't some gang robbing or whatever. Like I said, Your a Seeker."
That term Seeker kept getting thrown out a lot, but what was it? And why dose he think I know what it means? This was a little much for me.
Soon, we were on Capitol Avenue. That was when I could give him the slip. This was my part of Atlanta, and I knew it like the back of my hand. To my left, a couple of officers were standing around their car parked in one of the many alleys. I've seen these guys patrol around these parts a lot, and they always eat lunch in this ally--just like now. And if I know something about Atlanta P.D., is that they're always looking for a pay raise.
As soon as we were in front of them, I made my move...
"Officers help! This man is trying to kidnap me!" I yelled.
They stopped eating, and saw Kolt holding me in place. It didn't look to good for him. He stared at the Officers, then at me, only to see my evil grin.
"You bastard." he whispered.
Like that, the Officers come charging at Kolt. He pushed in their direction--hard--and made a break for it. One of the Officers stops to check on me, while they other chases after Kolt. He was a middle-aged man--maybe in his forties--and had a full set of gray hair and a gray, neatly trim mustache.
"Are you alright?" he asked
I nodded weakly. Kolt actually pushed me really hard.
The Officer helped me up back to my feet, then started asking me questions...
"Can you tell me the man's name?"
"He said it was Kolt, sir." I added "sir" to make me sound believable.
"When did he take you? Was anyone else with him?" he kept asking.
Sooner of later he was going to find out I lied. I needed to figure out a way to get myself out of this situation, but how? It wasn't like a miracle was going to appear out of nowhere.
"Michel I'm going to kick your ass!" Kolt yelled right outside the ally we were in.
The cop and I just stared at him like he was some idiot. Why would anyone come back to the place they were trying to get away from? And why do come back if you know another cop was here? So many levels of stupid, not enough time to go thru them all.
The middle-aged Officer quickly charged after him, and Kolt bolted down the street, faster than I could see. About a minute later, the middle-aged Officers partner came jogging by. He looked out of breath, and all I could think of was, "How fast is Kolt?"
He noticed me in the ally, and turned towards me...
"Where'd he go?" he asked.
I pointed down the street where Kolt and the other Officer ran down.
"Fuck..." he growled, as he jogged after them.
All I could say was...
"WTF?"
