The human brain will not allow its body to use its full strength. It knows that, for example, if you try and karate chop a brick without any experience, you will most likely break your hand, so it does't let you hit that brick very hard. If you were running, and about to run into a wall, it would make you slow down so you don't give yourself a concussion.
Luckily, or perhaps unluckily, Mikayla's brain still couldn't comprehend the fact that there was an invisible wall stopping her from getting into the middle of the room.
The man at the other end of the gray room moved, his head lifting, but Mikayla didn't look at him. She needed to concentrate (and she might still have been annoyed at him for not answering her questions earlier).
"What are you planning, little girl?" he called out.
Mikayla blinked. "Where are we, old man?" she retorted.
"I'm not answering your questions yet," he grumbled, "I'm still sleeping."
"Whatever."
If a runner wants to get the best time they possibly can, they don't stop at the finishing line. Instead, they run through it, only beginning to slow down five or six steps later. Mikayla knew she couldn't stop at the finish line.
Bending her right shoulder around and tucking her head in, she took a deep breath, and charged forwards.
