Work was but a half a mile away, and would normally be a thirty minute walk. I made it in two.

I worked in one of the newest restaurants in Atlanta, the Tradepost grill. A place to get all your favorite game time meals, with a fancier twist. It was fine dining at its best, from the dinning area, to the kitchen. Everything was perfect. How I got a job here is beyond me.

I wasn't a server or anything. Mainly, I worked in the back, doing dishes and checking some of our smoked meats we had in back. The pay was good, so i didn't complain, and my coworkers are pretty nice--sometimes.

Just outside the back entrance, I slowly crept my way in, as to not be detected by my boss.

"There you are!"

I nearly jumped out of my skin think that, "Oh shit! The boss found me!", but it was just Mary, standing in front of the door.

"Holy shit! You scared the crap out of me!" I shouted.

"No time, get moving!" she ordered.

Mary was one of my closes friends, and was the reason I got the job. She was one of the waitresses and mainly worked front, so we never got to see much of each other, except on breaks. She had long, curly, black hair with blond highlights, and green eyes that shined in a certain light, along with soft tan skin...

Yes I have a crush on her.

I had a crush on her sense we first met in third grade--long before my sister abandon me. She actually had grown up in a similar way, with her parents not wanting her, and pawning her off to her uncle. So in a way, we have something in common, but as far as that...nothing.

Even thou I had feeling for her, she didn't have the same for me. Sounds like I should give up, but It's hard when your crush is also your best friend. She used to look like one of the boys, but then she grew up, and started to be more feminine like now--and taller. taller than me.

Mary dragged me to my post at the sinks, tossing me a rag.

"I already signed you in, so you haven't technically missed work." she said.

"Thanks Mary."

"Don't think me. You owe me, understand?"

"Yes, boss." I said, giving her the "Okay" sign.

She moved back to the front, leaving me with all my other friends...pots, pans, and silverware.

"Well...time to get to work." I said to myself, marching right to work.

I got to scrubbing the plates first, as they were going to be needed at any minute. This place is always busy, and we had a shortage of plates to go around, making it so I had to wash them first before the other stuff. Next, I got to work on one of our soup pots, soaking it in warm water first, then dumping it to put dish soup and more warm water in. After that, I scrubbed all the silverware, and placed them on a drying rack to dry. Last were the pots and pans, those I had to...

Crash

A loud noise came from the front, followed by screaming...Mary's screaming.

I quickly pushed my way thru the line of cooks and serving staff to see what the commotion was about. In the middle of the dinning area, a group of shady looking men were standing up, and causing a scene. One of the men--a blond looking dude--had his hand around Mary's wrist, and was yelling at her...

"You dumb bitch!" he yelled, "Do you realize how much this shirt costs!"

"I said I was sorry sir! I didn't mean to spill soup all over you!" she argued.

"That didn't sound like you were sorry!" he added, "Try again."

He squeezed Mary's wrist, causing her to wince in pain. I had enough, I marched up to the table they were at--grabbing a glass pitcher without anyone noticing--and grabbed the man by his stained shirt. Pulling him close, a swung down with the glass pitcher, and shattered it all over his head.

He let go of Mary, and she immediately stepped behind me. The man however--bleeding from his head--fell back into his chair. His friends backed away when they saw what I had done.

"You...bastard." he said, "Do...you have any...idea what you just--"

"I kicked your ass, that's what I done." I said, "People here are trying to eat a nice meal, and your going around disturbing the peace."

"Why you..."

"How about you leave."

"AND WHO'S GOING TO MAKE ME!"

"Me." I deep voice said behind me.

Out of the crowed of chefs and servers, a big, tall, giant of a man stepped out. He had dark skin, brown eyes, and was bald except for a beard. This was my boss, G.

No one knew his first name, and the guy who dose said, "it was to long and hard to pronounce", so everyone called him G for short. When I first saw G, I thought he was the big and mean type of person. To my surprise he wasn't. On my first day he shake'd my hand, and told me he was glad to have me on-board. The only time anyone saw G's dark side, was when he had to deal with rude people. He hated rude people.

The men started to back off as G approached. Obviously they were scared, G was a pretty big dude. Not a single one of them got near him.

G grabbed the blond man by the collar, and started to put the record straight...

"If I ever see you here, or anywhere, near my restaurant again. Then I will break your bones, stuff you in a small bag, and bury you in a deep, dark hole, where they will never find the body ever again. Am I clear?"

The blond man didn't say anything at first, but after G shook him a little, he started to sing...

"Okay, Okay...I won't come here ever again."

"Promise?"

"Yes." he agreed.

"Then beat it." G said, throwing the man onto the ground.

That's when something caught my eye. On the man's chest, was a tattoo of some sort of creature with its fist ready to punch, and Kolt's warning started to play in my head, "stay away from the Fist."

Could this be what he meant.

"Hey, kid." the man called out to me, "Next time I see you, your dead."

"Bring it, you bastard."

They all left. Without even a fuss.

"Alright! Back to work!" G ordered, and like that, everyone resumed their normal past times.

But I was left in a deep thought. Could they be apart of the "Fist" that Kolt warned me about. Taking advice from a lunatic was stupid enough, but he could be right about something.

"Are you alright, Michel?" Mary asked me.

I looked at her for a second, before shaking my head, "Never better." I told her.

"You sure?"

"Yep"

Above us, G saw our little chit-chat, and had something to say...

"If you got time to talk, you got time to work, now hop to it."

"Yes, sir." we both said, then G slipped into his office.

"Well...lets get to work." I suggested.

"Yeah, lets."

And like that, back to the grind we were. Without a worry of those men coming back. However one thing still pestered me. That tattoo I saw...Maybe it was this "Fist" or something.

"A mystery for another day I suppose." I said, getting back to dish washing.
