The morning was peaceful; seagulls grabbing breakfast from the sea’s womb, the glint of the fish going floating with the current, fisherman waking up and readying for the day, mothers taking charge of the household, and children playing the day away. Not a cloud in the sky and a light breeze could be felt with no distinctive direction. As the day drawled on, the women were nurturing their homes while the men were fishing with great pleasure. The blistering heat was nothing for them, having found fun in their profession. Breaks were common for them as they sat and told stories of the great depths full of creatures capable of terrible and exceptional things. Through laughs, sweat, and hard work, the fishermen leave for home to be accepted into their wives’ bosom and their children's’ arms. One in particular, was no such man. Having just settled down in the village and no one to return home to, he stayed on the seas and intended on pulling in more fish. His interest in mere fish, however, wavered after hearing the stories of the monsters down below. Sailing further from shore, he set his nets in hopes of catching one of the fabled creatures, as he was a greedy man. As the sun set, the boat rocked side to side, increasingly with each passing second. Suddenly and without reason, the ocean’s depths swelled. Twisting and rolling in ways it hasn’t before, turning into a catastrophic beast that bared its fangs at any offender. Before long, the young lad was knocked out of his small vessel and straight into the sea. Drowning in the inky, black depths, muting all senses. Nothing could stop the incessant waves as they crashed against the rocks, destroying everything in their path. No such thing could’ve been predicted. Tumbling through the waves consistently was akin to Hell. opening his eyes and worse, his lungs in an attempt to escape, he was truly stricken with fear. Seeing nothing but the ocean and feeling nothing but her fury, he was dying. A pair of eyes. Shifting from green to blue; moving around him fluidly, almost quizzically. Glowing with a somber curiosity, they drew closer. As something akin to hands touch his face, his vision grew blurry. Everything started to fade. The waves instantly calmed as his body was embraced by the sandy seabed. The days progressed and the sea continued to swell. Men were dragged into the sea one by one as legends grew and spread far and wide. The ocean was taking revenge for all of her stolen brethren, a monster was seducing men to their untimely death, the village was to be sacrificed of its people akin to how the ocean sacrificed its own. As time went on, the villagers left, having grown fearful of the sea and what lies within and before long, the sea swelled to such a height, that the village was swallowed whole and never to be heard of again.
