The summer vacation went by for Sasuke and Naruto. Each one had fun, Naruto went with his best friends, Shikamaru and Choji on a summer camp near the sea; Sasuke went with his family in their secondary house, in the same town as Naruto's summer camp.
One day, in the middle of the holiday, both of them had the same idea: going on a run in the sunset. Naruto's friends were too lazy, so they didn't go along. Naruto loved to make a run once in a while; it reminded him of his training sessions at the athletics club.
As the 2 boys were heading towards the highest point of view of the town, Sasuke found himself running behind the Uzumaki boy. He was very surprised to meet him here of all places. He followed his friend closely; he was glad to see him running, and hopeful that he might join the track field club again.
Naruto stopped running at the top of the hill, watching the sunset as he recovered his breath. Sasuke watched him from afar, appreciating Naruto's face beautifully lightened by the sunset. His heartbeat went suddenly faster and he knew it wasn't because of the running. He had missed Naruto during the 2 weeks they didn't see each other.
He finally took a few steps forwards.
"Uzumaki?" He called out.
Naruto turned around, his eyes widened and his mouth opened, incredulous.
"Uchiha?! What are you doing here?" He blurted out.
"My family has a house here in town. I spend all my summer vacations here. What about you?"
"Oh ok, you bloody rich boy! Me, I'm just with Shikamaru and Choji on a camp over there." Naruto replied, pointing with his finger.
Sasuke stood next to Naruto, almost shoulder to shoulder.
"So you're running again?" He asked, looking at Naruto.
Naruto looked back. "Sort of... I like running once in a while." Then he saw where Sasuke was going and continued, "Ah, but I'm not going to sprint in club if that's what you mean!"
Uchiha smiled, sort of happy Naruto understood him so well. "Too bad..." He said.
All of a sudden, Naruto inquired: "So, any girlfriend this summer, Uchiha?"
Sasuke stared at him dumbfounded.
"Err no...I don't. But why do you ask that? Do YOU have a girlfriend?" Sasuke asked back.
"No reason, just asking! And no, I don't either!" Naruto replied, blushing a little.
They stood there, silently, looking at each other. Sasuke took a step towards Naruto and run his left hand in the blond hair of the boy.
'It's so soft', he thought, his heart was pounding strongly in his chest.
Naruto froze for a few seconds; then he caught Sasuke's hand and pushed it away from his head.
"W-What are you doing?!" He stammered, not letting go of Sasuke's hand.
"You had something in your hair." Sasuke lied.
"Don't ever do that again, ok? EVER!" Naruto shouted.
"Ok, but why are you holding my hand then?"
It startled Uzumaki, who let go of the hand and rubbed his against his pants. He was so red that even the orange sunset couldn't mask it.
"I-I should got back to the camp, it's getting dark!" He spurted out.
"Okay, see you in two weeks then." Sasuke said, holding out his hand for a shake.
Naruto shook his hand. He felt Sasuke's hand squeeze tighter and looked up at him. Uchiha was smiling, he squeezed the hand even harder and took another step forwards. He bent forward and whispered in Naruto's ear:
"I miss you, Naruto..."
Naruto jumped back, covering his ear as if it was burning. His face distorted between a smile and a cry.
"J-just d-don't do...that..! Ugh!" He whimpered and ran away quickly.
Sasuke ran one hand in his own hair and sighed. "No need to run..." He smirked.
Their summer vacation ended 2 weeks later, both of them thinking of one another. They apprehended the return to school, not knowing what their relationship would be like.
