High School Villain

Foiled Again

Foiled Again

Apr 18, 2018

“Ughhhhhh, WHY DOES HE ALWAYS GET IN MY WAY?” Mayhem paced his lab back and forth, pondering what went wrong with his evil scheme this time.

“It’s not like you can stop him,” Seven sighed through the screen. “Ever since Renegade appeared in the hero spotlight 2 months ago, San Francisco has never been safer.”

Mayhem abruptly stopped his pacing. He turned to the computer and let out a frustrated scream. “Curse Renegade! How am I supposed to fight against a hero with every freakin’ superpower known to man?! The odds are against me!”

“You’re exaggerating, May,” Seven replied. “In the bio the Chronicle sent out, they said his only powers were super strength, super speed, flight, laser eyes, ice breath, impenetrable skin…. Holy hell, the list goes on.”

“EXACTLY MY POINT!” Mayhem exclaimed. “I was able to get away with whatever before that goody two shoes showed up. But I haven’t been able to do anything all summer because of him!”

“I guess being one of San Francisco’s top villains isn’t the easiest job in the world, eh? Have you heard what they’re saying about you?” Seven held up a newspaper to his screen. “Washed up. A joke. You’re the laughingstock of the entire city.”

Mayhem fumed. “Don’t remind me. Mark my words, Sev. As soon as I uncover Renegade’s secret identity, I will inflict a world of pain on him and those closest to him! It won’t be long now!”

Seven casually responded with a shrug. “If you manage to keep hiding yours. I still can’t believe no one has figured out your identity yet. If only they knew who they were afraid of…”

“Half of my power and reputation depends on the fact that no one knows who I am, you idiot. You’re the only one that knows, and I intend to keep it that way.”

“We’ve been friends since diapers, May. We’re basically brothers. You can trust me,” Seven gave a slight chuckle.

Mayhem let out a deep sigh. “You never expected for me to become like this, did you? Are you disappointed?”

“HA! Ever since you were little, you were causing trouble everywhere you went! I just followed along ‘cause it was fun!” Seven gave out a toothy grin. “And disappointed? Being best friends with the smartest badass in all of SF definitely has its perks.”

“And hey,” Seven continued, “I think your parents would be proud of you, if they were still around. They would say you’d grown to be strong and independent. So don’t beat yourself over it, okay? You’ll get Renegade eventually.”

“Thanks, Sev,” Mayhem smiled. “What are we going to do now? The plan to flood city hall failed thanks to Renegade.”

“Why don’t you take some time off the villainy for a bit to clear your head? Empty your mind and open it to new ideas. After all, summer’s over so you should probably get ready.”

“Ready for what?” Mayhem asked, a bit confused.

“You forgot? That’s so like you,” Seven laughed. “Today’s the first day of senior year and class starts in an hour. Let’s gooooooooo!”
