“I feel like I am losing my twin sister.” Lia sobbed. I was leaping from building to building with the starry sky above me. “We were always together. But ever since she met him, Mia’s.... changed.” Her voice with quiet sobbing came from my cell phone.
“Does Mia spend time with you nowadays?” I asked with a gentle curiosity. Hopefully Mia is not actively avoiding her and is merely busy. Otherwise this conversation might get a little hard. It’s really hard to navigate rooftops while having this talk.
“Well… she says she’s busy.” Her voice trailed off. Doesn’t seem super horrible just yet.
“Hey!” I curiously interjected. “Does she ever talk about him?” I was so tempted to ask if her sister talks happily about him. But I held back because I need make sure I don’t influence her answer.
“Oh my gosh!” She exclaimed. “She doesn’t stop talking about him! It’s so annoying!” I paused at the edge of a skyscraper.”It’s always about him! I totally can’t stand it!” Phew… there is hope. It looks like this was a call of annoyance than of desperation. Still… gotta keep room for possibilities.
“While I’m happy that you trust me with your troubles about your twin...” I started to say as I took another leap through the starry sky. “... she is your twin. Try sharing how you feel with her.”
“But…” Her voice faded. “... I really really don’t want to be a hassle to her.” Ah… such considerate thoughts to the other person. Pretty much a common mistake. Though I pretty much have the same issues. Don’t got a right to complain
“No pain, no gain y’know!” I replied in a cheerful tone. A small smile crept on my lips by habit. “Muscles get stronger after tearing a bit. So will your bond after facing her with what’s on your mind! Just be sure you use ‘I’ instead of ‘you’ when speaking with her.”
“Really?” A hopeful voice came out of my phone.
“Might be what the doctor ordered. Gotta try at least.” I spoke as I landed. I’m really lucky to have some wind-reduction magical earpiece. I’m almost at my destination. I got to end this call quickly. “Anywho… gotta jet because I gotta take care of something… pronto!”
“Thank you so much for hearing my problems!” A thankful voice was heard on the other side of the line. “I don’t have everything figured out but I think I got my bearings.”
“Anytime! Catch you later!” I said as I turned off the phone. Now with that taken care of I can focus on my surroundings a bit more.
“Hey Green! You keeping up?“ Red’s voice came through on my earpiece. “I know you’re support and not a frontliner, but we need you to be ready to take down this baddie with us.” Still haven’t gotten used to Red’s leadership yet after a month of being in a superhero team. There are 5 of us. Arc Red, Blue, Yellow, Violet, and myself Green. Used to think it would cool and awesome. Now it feels like more work to do while risking my life. “You there Green?”
“I’m still keeping up Red.” I replied.
I had reached the edge of town with several buildings in the background far behind me. In front me as I stood atop a small building there was a mostly empty park with a small field of grass, a playground, and a baseball diamond. The only lights were the moon and the streetlamps over surrounding roads and the walkway through the park.
“Magical barrier detected!” A firm voice came over the magical frequency. “Looks like we we were right. Can someone confirm?” That’s our reliable Commander Cecilia. Always the cool-headed leader. Makes me wonder why we have both a “Red leader” and a commander.
“F-F-Found it! It’s behind home base of the baseball field!” Violet’s unsteady voice shouted over the comms. What? How did she see that? I just looked there! “They’re using some concealing magic!”
“I see it now too. Geez… they put up a magical barrier within a magical barrier? They’re a really tricky bunch. Heh.” Arc Blue spoke. “Want me to break the barrier Cecilia?” Blue sounded a bit too excited.
“Is everyone in position?”
“““““Yes!””””” We all declared.
“Break the barrier and confront them now!” With that I saw a bright glowing bow and arrow coming from atop a tree. A blue mystical flame emanated from the tip of his arrow.
“Eat this!” Blue said. A blue trail streaked towards the space behind the home plate. It collided with a dome-like energy that wasn’t visible before. The barrier shattered and it’s magic dispersed into the air. All that was left was a man dressed in a purple suit and a purple top hat.
“Ah… I guess you found me out. Well done Team Arc.” He started walk forward doing a slow clap. “Introductions are in order then. I am Spade. On a mission from my master to collect energy.”
“You’re stealing everyone’s lifespans!” Arc Red shouted. “We won’t let you get away with stealing the their future hopes and dreams!” We all took one step forward.
“Stealing? Ha!” Spade had a grin on face. His eyes intensely looking at us as if he found his prey. “All this energy in this area belongs to master. None shall deny Master!”
“We’ll see about that!” Red yelled. “Everyone! Get ready!”
““““Right!”””” We all shouted. Spade leaped high into the air. After he reached the apex of his jump he rained down magical beams upon us.
“Barrier!” I spread my arms wide and a green transparent dome covered me and my team. The beams ricocheted away safely off the barrier. “Alright guys! Time to return the favour!” My teammates started to hurl magical blasts of energy at Spade. Spade shifted left and right dodging the attacks while hurling back some of his own attacks. Looks like he could hover in the air. It became a kaleidoscope of magical attacks.
Looks like we had the advantage. I’m on the barrier while the four others were free to fully concentrate on offense. Spade could dodge the attacks but he had to split his attention between dodging and attacks. And nothing was penetrating my barrier unless it was dedicated magical attack that took a lot of focus. It was only a matter of time before we would eventually tag him with one of our attacks.
BEEP BEEP BEEP! I looked at my heads up magical display. Mia?! She never calls me! I’ll have to ask her to call me back. “Tetsu! It’s Mia! Please help me!” Oh shit! Not now! “It’s Roger! He’s not himself! Help met Tetsu!” I look upwards at the intense streaks of magic above me with the tinge of green from my barrier. Mia’s boyfriend is getting violent now. “He’s right outside the door! Help me Tetsu!”
What do I do now?
