"But my Lord, this it's a perfect opportunity for me to take a few specimens and-"
"Christof, I will not tell you once more, there is nothing of use to me or you on this godforsaken island." Christof and Ferdinand stood in the latter's cabin. The floor, still damp from the early morning storm. Clothing and trinkets thrown about making it difficult to move.
"Lord Ferdinand, for all we know, there's something out there we don't yet know exists. We could discover it first!" Christof squealed. His excitement at the mere thought of a new find painted his face like a child. He grinned wide and his eyes shined with a burning desire, a fiery passion to explore. He pleaded to Ferdinand for the chance to fulfill his dreams.
"We stand on the edge of something unknown, something new and undiscovered, something..."
"Wet?" Ferdinand said, pinching between his thumb and finger a barely held together mass of parchment, soaked and pressed.
"My lord, I swear it there is something out there that I must find! It's imperative!"
"Oh, and you will die without it?"
"Well I nearly think that I might!"
Ferdinand scoffed at Christof's ridiculous thoughts and shuffled through the cabin and back up the stairs. "Captain, none of my... perishables seem to be recoverable..."
"As was expected," Cosa mumbled. The crew and it's captain sat on the sands around a small table, fished from the captain's chambers. A line of cards lay in a row in the center. A game of poker played during a moments rest. Christof, who had temporarily given up his request, grabbed a hand of cards and joined the game.
"However," Ferdinand continued, "I was able to recover a number of things, mostly clothes and jewelry."
"Well good for ye." Cosa threw his hand and declared his lost of the round. He leaned back in his chair, tipping his hat to break the sun's contact with his face, "So Christof wants to go explorin' the jungle eh?"
Rising to his feet, Christof straightened himself and tried to speak, cut off before he could speak a single word.
"Yes, well, undoubtedly his schoolboy fantasies of exciting adventures will wait until we are off this wretched island." Ferdinand said. He glared at Christof, sending his head behind the deck of cards.
"Actually," Cosa said, "I'm pulling some of my boys together to head inside. He's welcome to come along," Cosa rose from his chair, clapped his hands together and laughed, "with yer permission of course."
"Hm..." Ferdinand tapped his finger on his chin as if stuck in a deep state of thought. Through pleading eyes, Christof asked once more for an opportunity of a lifetime, "I see, well, I guess I can lend you his services. He's not putting them to much use here."
Christof, nearly flying out of his chair, showered his lord in praise. "Thank you, so much my lord, you won't regret it!"
"For my same sake and yours, get off the ground! Numbskull!"
The sitting crew and captain laughed behind him. Brushing himself off, Christof stood and thanked Ferdinand one last time before rushing off to find his rapier.
