“I can’t believe it’s been a month already,” I said before flinging myself back on my bed. Mushu looked at me, he was sitting cross-legged on my bed typing away on his laptop. "What are you working on?” he smiled and clicked a few buttons before turning it around to show me. “Shh. It’s a secret.” I read the title out loud. He had about fifty pages written up. I started to read the first chapter. “Mushu! You’re writing my story!” Mushu is a manga writer. He writes under an assumed name, but he’s been doing this for a few years now. His stories are very popular in Japan.
“It’s a good story. Look I changed the names and added some stuff.” I shook my head at him and continued reading. He’s right it is a good story.
“Are you going to draw this up in a manga?”
“Yes, I’m just working on the story for now though.”
“Mushu you make it sound like the main characters are in love and don’t know it.”
“Yeah, it gives the story some kick.” I nodded but thought about it for a moment. Chang and I spend so much time together. In our room, studying, in our clubs. We spend almost every day all day together I’m actually quite surprised that I’ve been able to keep my secret this long. I got up and look in the mirror. My hair is getting too long I need to get it cut again. My dark brown hair is hanging in my dark brown eyes. My skin is clear and has a light tan to it. I pulled my shirt tight over my body.
“Mushu do you think I’ve filled out a little?”
“I guess you’re a little curvier and your chest looks a little bigger. Maybe it’s because you’re eating more.” I shrugged and dropped my shirt away letting it bag over my body again. Chang walked through the door.
“Hey, guys how’s it going today?” I shrugged again.
“Not much. You?” he grinned
“Three words. Club. Camping. Trip.” I went wide eyed and Mushu started to laugh.
“Really? When?”
“This weekend; I talked the administration into it. We have to have a teacher and a nurse come with us, but it will still be a fun way to train.”
“When do we leave?”
“Friday after our classes.”
“Do you need help with anything?”
“Sure. Do you want to help me get things together?”
“Yeah.”
Mushu smiled and winked at me as he left and Chang and I got to work. We went down to the storage room and pulled out what we needed. Tents, cooking supplies, sleeping bags, fire starter logs, and so on. We got everything together and carried it up to the club room setting it in the corner, out of the way so we wouldn’t trip over it during practice.
“Next is the grocery store. Do you want to come with me?”
“Sure.” We walked down to the garage and I look around. I’ve never been in here before, I don’t own a car so there was no reason for me to ever come here. It’s a large area with more cars than I could count. They all looked really expensive and make me nervous. I would hate to scratch any of these cars on accident. “Do you have a car?” I asked and he grinned.
“No, we have to borrow one of the schools.”
“So you don’t have anything parked down here?”
“I never said that.”
“But you just said you don’t have a car.”
“I don’t. I have a motorcycle.”
“Oh, that’s cool.”
“Have you ever been on one?”
“Ah no.” I don’t know anything about motorcycles. I thought to myself. “I’ve never driven a car either.” Chang stopped dead in his tracks.
“What?”
“In China, I walked everywhere so I never bothered to learn.” Chang looked like he was having problems wrapping his mind around that. He better never find out that I’m women, I think his brain would explode.
“Do you want to learn?” he asked when we started walking again.
“What?”
“Do you want to learn to drive?”
“Um maybe. I guess I’ll have to if I’m going to live in the states.”
“I’ll teach you then.”
“WHAT!”
“I’ll teach you if you want. They have a driver’s Ed car here at the school. students are allowed to use them if we want.”
“Ah sure, thanks.” We walked up to a little red two-door car with the schools logo printed on the side. I got into the passenger seat while Chang slid into to the driver’s seat. He buckled and gripped the steering wheel.
“Man do I love to drive. It’s such a thrill. "He pulled out of the parking spot and slowly headed down the drive. I was just starting to think wow he’s a really good driver when I saw him look into the rear view mirror and grin.
"Good the schools out of sight.”
“What does that have to do with any…?” Chang put down the windows and turned up the music before he pressed down on the gas pedal. He was laughing as I hung on for dear life. It wasn’t long before I relaxed, sticking my hand out the window and singing with the music. I was having so much fun I didn’t want it to end, but we made it to the store in record time. Hanging out with Chang was fun. He really liked to goof off when he got the chance. We played in the aisles, running and jumping on to the cart and throwing stuff into it. Whenever someone walked by we pretended like nothing was going on and kept walking. We laughed on our way out to the car with our two shopping carts full of food. Now you might think that’s a lot but when you’re feeding ten guys, food goes fast.
“Are you sure we bought enough?”
“Yeah, if we run out we can always buy more.”
“So where are we camping at?”
“There’s this secluded camping area about an hour from the school.
"This should be fun. I’m excited, I’ve never been camping before.”
“Yeah, we will have fun, but this is also going to be about training. Taking us out into nature gives a chance to connect with each other without other things getting in the way. ”
