The Watingale Siblings

Chapter 2: Shirui Watingale

Chapter 2: Shirui Watingale

Apr 26, 2018

Kindness. That's what my name means. Which is pretty fitting, because I have to force myself to be mean. I don't really know why I was named that, because I was adopted five years ago, when I was six. The only thing I know about my real parents is that they were Japanese. My adoptive parents are Native American and European, though I don't think that's important because it has nothing to do with how I was named.

Anyway, today is a Saturday, so everyone is cleaning their butts off. It's kind of like a family tradition. Every Saturday we clean the house until it's spotless, and only after we do our chores do we get to play. Though, unlike most kids, in a dark room playing video games or watching videos, our family prefers to play outside. Even the teenagers. We make up stories while playing, so it's practically like improv.

"Iru! It's your turn!" called Ella. She just finished loading the dishwasher. It's now my turn to clean my part of the kitchen. Ella loads the dishwasher, I do the pans, Gracie puts the dishes away after the dishwasher is done, and Anna sweeps before Ali mops. It's a weird system, but it works. Everyone does their part.

"Coming!" I yell back. I rush down after finishing up in cleaning my room to do my chore.

"There's only three pans," Ella says as I walked past her.

"Okay, thank you!" I say as I walk into the kitchen to wash dishes.

Whew. I thought after finally finishing my chores. I run outside to play with my siblings.

"Hi guys! What do you guys wanna do?" I yelled once I got outside.

"Do y'all wanna play Bike Racing?" Anna said as we all grouped together.

"Sure!" Ref said. Of course he'd say that.  I chuckle to myself.

"Why not?" Ella says casually.

"Okay, let's do this!" says Ali with optimism.

"'Kay, so, everyone grab your bikes!" said Anna enthusiastically.

We all grabbed our bikes and started racing up and down the street. We were playing for almost three hours before Mom called us in for dinner.

"Come on guys, dinner's ready!" yelled Mom out the front door.

Everyone put their bikes away as fast as they could and rushed inside for dinner. We we're having spaghetti for dinner and there isn't a single person who didn't like spaghetti in our house.

There were no leftovers that night.

After dinner everyone went to their rooms to get ready for Sunday, which is tomorrow, so everyone (except Ref and Dad) was picking out dresses for church. Since I share a room with Gracie, I have to help her pick a dress which I have no problem with (come on, she's six years old! It's so cute!). Afterwards we all usually just get ready for bed and go to sleep.

It's Sunday, so everyone is up early getting for church. Anna, Ella and Ali are getting all their Young Women's stuff together, even doing some extra Personal Progress together. Ref is in Dad's room getting ready with Dad because he's the only other guy in the house. I'm already ready to go, so I'm helping Mom with Gracie in trying to find her church shoes (typical large Mormon family, chaotic before church, late for church. I love it!).

"Everyone ready?" Dad called as he and Ref walked out of his room.

"Almost, we still need to grab Gracie's coloring books and we'll be good." I yelled back up the stairs.

We got all our stuff together and hopped in the car to go to church.
