“Chase there’s something in the oven. Won’t it burn?” Nikeya asked in concern. The two boys stopped laughing. “You weren’t supposed to say anything about that.” Chase put his finger to his lips while he was speaking to Nikeya. “You mean Chase made something in the kitchen?” Alex asked in amazement. “It was supposed to be a surprise.” Chase took a quick look at Nikeya and then looked back at Alex. “But it really doesn’t matter.” Chase walks out of the room and goes into the kitchen. “Was I supposed to warn him about the thing in the oven?” Nikeya asked feeling like she burdened Chase. “You can surely try but Chase is a wiz in the kitchen. He knows what to do.” “But we were talking and laughing for an hour and twenty minutes. Whatever’s in the oven might be bur-…” Alex went to go cover Nikeya’s mouth before she could finish her sentence. “Don’t say that word. He can hear it from a mile away.” Alex looked around as if he thought chase might be behind them both. “You’re new meat so you don’t know all the rules yet. But that word is number one on it. Never say the B word in a sentence with food. Breaking that rule has the biggest consequence, none of his cooking for a month.” Chase walks in with two large pizzas and sets them down on the small table they. Nikeya and Alex’s eyes widened, the pizza was perfect. The first pizza had pepperonis on it, the cheese was a medium light and dark orange color, the crust was like perfect toast, golden. The other pizza was a classic and was also the same as the other also perfect in just about every way. They smelled divine like god had made them himself. “But they were in the oven for almost an hour and a half.” She said in disbelief. “I anticipated that something was gonna consume more time than usual today so I set it to a low temperature for a nice and slow bake.” Chase sat down in one of the VR system chair in the middle and put the helmet in his lap. “Man sometimes you just gotta sit down to enjoy some things in life. No questions or worries.” Alex sat in the chair to the right of Chase. “You may be good at cooking but you philosophies are definitely burnt.” Alex said while slouching in the chair. “So do they work properly this time or will they short out again like they did last time?” Alex asked. “They’ll work I tested all fifteen of the chairs at least three times.” Chase replied in a reassuring manner. “But we have to be fully nourished or else there will be side effects.” “What kind of side effects?” Nikeya was concerned. “It’s nothing major just a headache is all. That’s also the reason why I made the pizzas.” Nikeya exhaled, “thank goodness.” “Chase remember she’s new meat, we have to do the calibration test.” Alex whispered in Chase’s ear. “I know I was gonna get to that.” Chase whispered back. Nikeya notice and asked, “What they were whispering about?” Nikeya we need you to sit down in one of the chairs to take a calibration test since you are new and all. I’ll have to go get my computer to program it into the chair as a different user. While I do that you guys should eat, those headaches hurt worst than being in hell.” Chase leaves out of the room to go fetch his computer. “So when did Chase get a girlfriend?” Alex asked hoping to get a funny response. Nikeya blushes as she feels her blood heating up. “It’s not like that. He and I are just starting out to be friends today.” “What happened before you guys were friends?” Alex grabbed a slice of pizza. “He hated me before.” She answered in a voice that sounded like she was gonna cry just for saying anything. Alex took a bite of pizza before he spoke. “Yea, Chase doesn’t really like to let people get close to him. But he doesn’t really hate people at all.” He said this with a mouth full of pizza. “But the things he did to me seemed like he did.” She replied quickly. “Were you being persistent?” Alex asked knowing the answer would be yes. Nikeya didn’t realize that she was, until she thought back to the way she was shoving her kindness down Chase’s throat. “I thought so. Chase is a type of person that will slowly warm up to other people. If you push yourself onto him rapidly, he will repel you away.” Nikeya, now realizing what she was doing. Felt bad for what she was doing. “How did you two become friends?” She asked in anticipation. Alex swallowed hard before he gave her a straight answer.
A boy has to remember and relive the events that he doesn't ever want to go back to. His life was once filled with happiness, friendship, and love, but is now only filled with regret.
